Project: "BTA" Boosted Trans Am.....
Okay guys, I'll be updating this thread in the coming days/weeks, but basically we're building a '92 Pontiac F-Body in which originally came equipped with a 3.1 automatic (manual pending, if unable to get the stall that we need). We just now received the GT66 turbo charger through UPS, and was initially waiting for this very thing before we began embellishing on this journey. Why, "journey", you ask (smile), well, let's just say that twelves has already been done, and elevens, well, is kinda boring.....
I'll be posting pictures of the process so far later on tonight. Noah, I didn't forget about you buddy, the pictures will also include Dave's STB as well. Just recently finished installing both a vacuum/psi gauge, along with an AFR gauge (carbon fiber units), and Grant GT steering wheel. Ram Air 1 hood was also just added, with the notchback being installed either later on today, or tomorrow. ECM control is still up in the air, but that's later on. All engine work will be greatly detailed as well, absolutely no secrets.....
Stay tuned.....

Just to give you an idea of what we are originally working with, here is a pic of the car in it's bone stock form. Nothing has been added or removed since it's release in late '91 (save for the mileage). Bone stock 3.1 automatic, T-Tops and A/C.....

Should look pretty cool when you are done with it. If my car wasn't a formula, I would get an aftermarket hood, and blackouts and get a custom paint. But, I want to leave my car the way it is as a sleeper. If I do repaint it, I will get it painted the same with the same decals and everything.

I hear ya Bullydawg, but the stock hood is way too heavy for the 3.1. This project is going to get quite the reduction in weight, lemme tell ya....
As for Formula's, that's my next project. In fact, this is where Project "BTA" received those rims from....

The pictures above are captions from Streetfire.net. I had no other way to pull pics from one of my DVD's, so I had Streetfire host the very small video's for me, then pulled a caption to link for you guys here. The video's are only seconds long, but if you would like to check them out before I start posting larger pics, I'll provide ya's with some links.
Ram Air One Hood
16" Formy's w/255's Out Back
Grant "GT" Steering Wheel, Kenwood Stereo System, Dual Gauge Pod w/AutoMeter Vac/Boost & AFR Gauges
GT66 Turbo Charger Lying in Wait, A/C System Completely Removed....
Again, these video's were never meant to be watched. I just wanted to try and "image grab" some pics for ya, just until my other cam is ready.....

I personally need to give props to my cousin Gaspar the tech guru, who's been modifying GM cars for years. Dave is pretty much building the custom turbo system for me, as well as the head work, UIM and LIM. Both guys are helping me out tremendously w/making Project BTA happen....

Also, what people don't realize just yet is the tremendous amount of weight being eliminated from the vehicle. In terms of power-to-weight, cubic inch displacment soon becomes irrelevant when running a turbo. Yes, you'll make more power on the dynojet with more cubic inch displacement, but 9 or 10 seconds in the quarter mile is still 9 or 10 seconds in the quarter, either way you slice it.....

Re: Project: "BTA" Boosted Trans Am.....
#1 expected weight of robs car is to be approx 1,200 pounds lighter then mine
#2 i made alot of compromises with my car on everything from tunning to suspension due to the fact i had to drive this car everyday.from what ive gone over with rob there wont be any compromises on anything
#3 this thing will be tuned the right way by way of ecm tuning
#4 robs turbo is suited more to all out hp/drag were mine was a street/strip setup, his is also capable of approx 725 hp =/-
#5 i learned form my mistakes on my setup which will be greatly improved apon with robs mainly the foward facing headers

Here's a better shot of the wheels that I decided to go with. Coming from a stock '91 Formula, these 16" rims will do extremely well. Again, 255 out back, and 225 up front. However, in the coming weeks, 275's will definitely need to find their way on there very very soon. Also provided a close up of the carbon fiber Auto-Meter gauges that I went with.....

My guage pod looks exactly like that except my boost it on top.
I've been trying to tell people that all along, you would have to reverse the wrap on the waterpump/crank to get rid of the smog.
Man seeing that A/C gone makes lots of room for some turbo headers. If I didn't live in FL, I would ditch the A/C in a heartbeat (it's 1.5hrs to the track each way )

Last pic for the night, something that every 3.1 turbo builder needs to have. It's mandatory!!!! A "Precision Turbo" banner in their home garage. Yup, it's fun for the whole entire family. Yeah, and even the wife enjoys it, too.....
Before anyone asks, that's my spare 3.1 w/5-speed....

Well anyway, I wish I had some "gearhead" friends that weren't miles away on the internet to work on stuff with me . Can't wait to see what you are doing with this project!
The crank I just got delivered is shot...
