well I have been just THROWING money at this car recently, and some of it wsa my fault (stripped threads, melted wires...) and some is the cars fault. But now I am stuck....
My latest fiasco was when I added an Autometer oil pressure guage sender I tucked one of my plug wires behind an exhaust manifold bolt. during my nest 15 mile trip guess what, the darn wire melted causing a MAJOR misfire. well that is now fixxed, but I am having the same symptoms intermittantly. I am not having as much of a power loss, but starting from Idle it stumbles a lot and once I get the RPM above 2500 it is fine. any ideas as to what to look at? there are no codes, and now melted wires this time.
I tried tapping the MAF to see if that changed but that diddnt do anything. I checked my sensor plugs everything is good. what else shold I look at?

dirty/worn tps, cap/rotor (arced from the short), module under the rotor. clogged injector,
Do both plugs and a brand new entire wire set first. Yes, even if there no melting, yes broken arcing wires don't look that way.
Is there a different response when car is dead cold vs. warm?
unplug MAF altogether, it puts car into mode that takes a few sensors out of the loops.

when I melted teh wire I replaced all the wires, cap and rotor. Plugs have only about 2000 miles so I left them in. Ill try cleaning the TPS, and dont want to replace t module under the rotor.... looks like a pain... But if I must, I will.
It seems to be more noticeable when the car is warm to hot, which would make me suspect the Ignition Control module, but I like to bounce my thoughts off the more knowledgeable guys here first. Saved me lots of money already on this car, as well as different cars inthe past with different forums. (how the hell did non-mecanics fix thier cars before the internet?)

When you melted the wire(s), you had misfiring right? Well, then you probably have fouled a plug(s). So have you cleaned/replaced the plug or plugs? I would start there. Check especially the plug on which the wires melted.

heres my patented test, it worked for me
1. go buy new ICM
2. pull off old one, install new, and drive car.
3. assess situation
4. either a. eat the cost of the new ICM since it fixed it
or
b. wipe off grease, insert into original packaging, and take back for full refund

took it out for about an hour tonight... still stumbles a bit on take off, but the harsh popping at idle is gone.
Good god, and I thought I put a lot of money into my 3000GT VR4 prior to selling it.....

The Internet is great. There is a forum for almost everything LOL. Glad it is better, I'd still clean the injectors and do a full service on it. I had the same problem with mine when I bought it, but it'd been sitting 2 years...tune up and clean the injectors and it runs great now.
