Iron head to aluminum head 2.8 swap?
First off, let me say that I'm a newbe to the V6 board. I just sold my 92 Z28 for a 88 Fiero with the 2.8L, so I'm turning to this board for help because frankly, thirdgen.org has THE BEST message boards with the most intellegent users. Trust me, I've been to a lot of other boards. This one is amazing!
Anyway, heres the question at hand. My 2.8L has cast iron heads, and I wanted to upgrade to the aluminum heads in the FWD 2.8L 88-up cars. Is this possible, will they bolt up to the L44 Fiero 2.8L? Will I need new pushrods to accomodate to the canted valves? Will the valve covers fit? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help

im not to familaier with the fiero engine and layout, does it have dis or a distributor.and also a swap to aluminum heads requires a pistion swap as well,or u end up with around 14.3-1 compression ratio

So' that's a no on the aluminum head swap then? Why the massave change in compression? The stock compression is 8.5:1. The combustion chambers in the aluminum heads can't be that small that it changes it to 14:1.

they're small. also have dished pistons. do a search & read up on what is involved.

The size difference is half in the chamber size, 56cc for iron head 28 cc for aluminium head.
You'd be better off swapping the entire FWD engine, bottom end, everything, since it will bolt in. I beleive on the genIII 660 has some minor issues with the oil pan clearance due to teh larger capacity aluminium oil pan.
