Short Belt Rubs the water pump
Got the goodyear gatorback for the non ac for a 1991 3.1 camaro from the autozone store the other day and i try it and it dont seem safe. i started it and it runs and it seems fine. but i dont know about how safe it is having it slightly touching.
the reason for the short belt is to bypass the AC compressor that dont work anyway, so i figure why have it spool around when its useless. so i threw the old belt back on in hopes of maybe you other thirdgen owners could give some ideas cuz i dont know what to do. do they make a smaller pulley for water pumps? or maybe a bigger power steering pulley? anything like that would help, all i would need is just a teeny weeny bit of clearance.

i did a search once again and it turned up a million results of ideas that .. well... just really dont help, or dont apply to my car. i am a bit frustrated at this point. the thing on the car has a picture that shows belt routing, it says nothin of an idler pulley, it just shows how to route a shorter belt without the ac compressor. it looks simple but im almost sure its rubbing when it comes back over the water pump. anyone know about different size pulleys to go over water pump or bigger power steering pulley?
or possibly a underdrive pulley set would help??

Under-drive wont help because its just the crank. I have yet to see anything done with a WP. Bigger will make it slower, smaller will make it faster and there is no space for smaller.
I posted what I did about a month ago to delete my ac.
I've heard that year depending, the PS bracket moves the pump up or down.
Remember, this is a very smilier setup to that of the 2.8 s10 as well.

so if theres no way to get the water pump pulley modified then is there anything i can do with the power steering pump? what about that belt tensioner next to the alternator? does that have a way to move at all? i just need a little small bit of clearance.

The idle pully does go up a bit more with a tighter belt.
As I said with the ps, their have been claims that different years/options, the bracket sat the pump higher. Nobody has 100% proof. A larger pully on this would slow the ps down.
