I think I said it before, but I'll say it again.

I'll be stripping my car down when I get home to check for or stop any rust I may have. (and I'm sure there is some in there somewhere starting, as I have had a leak or 2 while driving it during 04 )

It's been parked under cover for most of 05 and still is at the moment. It'll give me another excuse to buy the TA I want though so I can take my time fixing it.

Goodluck with whatever road you decide to take Tom.

tom easy way to sum this up.

it's just natures way into pushing into making this a race car. think about it. nature has already worked on making the car lighter. it's striping the car out. it also seems you know how to weld so that would be a good time to put a full roll cage in their instead.

honestly thought that doesl ook like a bum deal. makes me afraid to look under my car with all the noises I hear.

Well, that floorboard is my fault...

A few years ago, I was doing something routine in the driveway- can't remember what it was, but the car was up on jackstands. I lowered the car down with the hydraulic jack- and heard a crunch. Ha, Ha, I dropped the rear passenger side onto a jackstand- what a dumb "beginners" mistake. So I laughed about it, raised the car back up, pulled the jackstand out- and went on my way.

And i didnt' look at the damage until december 2005. THATs what caused that hole.

For the back right, it'd been rusting for a long time... thats where the plans came from to swap that other back right half on my car. That half I had was rusted in the same spot that mine is in the above pic (by the top of the tire), and where Gumby's rusted out.

But it wasn't rusted bad- I had plasma-cut out the rusted spot, and planned to weld new metal in (see this attached pic of how it was going).

So I thought all I had to do was weld this piece on during that last week in 2005. Then I pulled that carpet back and pretty much puked- I have nothing to weld that back half onto!

And since I've been chasing rust since I got the car in 1994... and since its had major framework done on the front (you guys haven't seen pics of that crash)... I figure it's better to start with a "fresh" chassis- hopefully one driven by an old lady!

But I'm going to swap EVERYTHING over- including the computer/wiring harness (I've had that out before) and the steering column and entire dashboard! Why the steering column and entire dashboard? Those are the ONLY TWO PIECES that I've never taken off of the car! Yeah I've had the gauges off but never the full car-width dashboard.

So it'll be fun! And I'm actually looking forward to finding a car that isn't rusted as bad as mine was/is.

Here's how the "new metal on an old quarter" was going:

Last one, the spot you just saw me welding on...

Damn that was coming out good. Such a shame it's not going on the car.

Holy cow... I just found the message where I popped the jackstand thru the floorboard. That was 2002.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ight=jackstand

And I was doing emergency welding to keep the crack in the wheelwell from going further. See how long I've been chasing rust??
