which cam do i go with? (if you know cams, please reply)

ok after searching and reading forever, i cant decide which cam im ordering in a couple weeks (waiting for the bonus check, lol). from what ive read, crane cam lobes tend to wear out prematurely so im gonna avoid them. im looking at the Comp Cams 260H, the Crower Baja Beast, or the Mellings MTC-5 cam. i know a fair amount about cams but i dont feel enough to make a good decision on one. my set up will be my 3.4 w/ 1.6 roller rockers, P&P heads and intake, everything listed on my website, and maybe some other minor upgrades. i need some good opinions here. if i need to chip the ECM, i will. i had already planned on it anyway, so its in the budget, just toward the end, lol.

I haven't had any problems with my lobes on my Crane cam, over 20 000 Kms on it. Mine was bought through GMPP, exact same grind as the 260-2, since well Crane makes it. Works great for the 660.

A step up will be the 272, but may have a bit of a lope. Most people that use them find they pull near 18" of vacuum and idle is fine.

isnt the 272 cam a solid lifter cam? for some reason i think it is, but it may be just that its 1:30am and im too tired to remember right at the moment. lope wont be a big deal since i can get it chipped if i have to, to help w/ some of the computer correction for it.

I went with the 240H from compcams so I wouldn't have to get the chip for it. If you go with the 260H you will need to upgrade the chip. Never really got to test out my cam since I was having other issues with the car but you could tell the difference at idle even with the 240. Either way sounds like a good deal to me.

I was thinking about getting the 260h. How come you need to upgrade the chip if it says it works with stock components. Does the description leave that out or did i read it wrong. Id like to buy something i can just put in.

i meant the 272, i think you have to rechip the ECM for the best results.

I believe the 260H is slightly less agressive than the 260-2 that I am currently running and myself along with other owners of this cam have not needed to reprogram the ECM. Most of the time it's due to turbos and other modifications that need the reprogramming.

Same goes for the 272.

Now I will mention most of my experiance is with the alumimium head version of the 660 GenII/III and hybrid, but I can see the effect on idle and part throttle cruise being about the same between the iron head and aluminium head.

the 272 is a hydraulic lifter cam.

Im going with a comp cam summit racing part #CCA-K16-233-4 it has 212 duration @ .50 and 440 lift. Dean has talked about this cam before, it is a whole kit with timing chain, lifters, springs, and the cam. Nice to hear u broke into the 15's, i wish i ran 15's

Compare the two gm cams [gmpartsdirect] that have the same lift and duration,204 int. / 216 exh. lift, 427 / 454 .The difference is in the lobe seperation 107 vs. 112,the 107's power is in more mid range, the 112's power is more top end. Both have stock like idle.I've had both, the 107 in my 3.4 crate eng. and the112 in a 2.8.Both perform well ,where do you want your power? Had the crane version [112] never had any problems.
