Starting problem.

For no apparent reason my car wouldn't start last night. I was at my inlaws house, car had been running fine, I goto start it and nothing. Turned the key, car powered up, didn't crank. I had plenty of gas, everything was hooked up, cleaned the terminal on the starter, hooked it all up and still nothing. I had lowered the car to see if it would start after cleaning the terminal and no go, I jacked it back up turned the key to on to ground out the starter or whatever, put a screw driver across the terminals on the starter. When I turned the key to on I figured I'd attempt starting it and it fired right up while it was jacked. Lowered it down and did some errands, stopping and starting the car again and again. Any ideas wtf happened?

I've had several starters over the years that would do the same thing. They all needed new solenoids, the last one that did this, you could have someone hold the key in start and just lightly tap the solenoid and it would engage, it would work fine for days then refuse to work again for no apparent reason.
