shift linkage boot/seal?
Ran this one by the experts on the transmission board earlier in the week and didn't get any answer: The shift linkage on the 700R4 that runs along the trans oil pan has a small boot at the end of it. I presume its to protect the linkage. Mine's torn. Is this part necessary, and how hard is it to find and change. Thanks.

that boots to keep dirt/sludge from getting up in the cable & corroding/binding it.
Not sure on how it could be replaced w/o replacing teh while cable.
