How much would you pay?

How much would you pay for a used 2.8 motor with 78,000 miles on it? The motor is a MPFI motor complete with A/C, not sure if it works or not. Also has the air pump removed with an idler pulley there. Its out a of late 198? firebird. Like I said its a complete car in the junkyard, its there because they hit a teliphone poll . So I was wondering how much you guys would pay for the motor if its in good running condition . I don't want the tranny because its a 7R4, and i have a WC t-5. That should bolt right up with it right? Thanks guys

I would say 350-500 tops. And you need to install a pilot bushing in the crank ( maybe 2.00 and you can do it yourself. As far as the bellhousing they are different, you will need to use the T-5 bellhousing but other than that it should work. Let me know if you have any more questions i just got done rebuilding my entire car. Just got it on the road Tuesday, so everything is fresh on my mind.

I paid $200 for a complete 60k 2.8/T5 motor/tranny out of a '89 Camaro.

I'm going down there tomorrow and they are goign to check it out a little better for me. The pilot bushing is easy to change? It should work fine seeing as though my car right nwo is a 2.8 5 spd. So i should be able to swap everything over, i just want that for a spare just in case, maybe mod it on the side

Have them start it for you. Don't spemd your $$$$ on a boat anchor that could've stayed in the yard.

If it runs fine do you guys think it is worth getting? And what would be the most resonable price for it? I figur it would be a good motor for a spare or to mod and swap later. Let me know what you think

Do a search for a 2.8-3.4 swap, cause if you are looking to mod it for later and more power than i would suggest getting one of those, but if you are like me and want your car to be as close to factory as it can be then get the 2.8 and mod it internaly. Also do not buy a 2.8 that is a 87 or earlier cause they have oiling problems. And the pilot bushing is just a sleeve that goes into the back of the crankshaft for a 5-spd, auto's do not need it and it only cost like 2 bucks at the part store.

Thanks man, I do want to get more power out of it, just don't seem to find any running 3.4s lying around anymore you know. Well around here anyway. That 2.8 is in good shape and runs awesome, however i don't get to much with it. No ac compressor which i need, no power steering, no alt, no bolt ons, is it still worth it you think?

Only thing that makes it worth it is the low miles.
