ok well what i have circled in red is that the actual mount and what is circled in blue like a bushing? because i think i received what was circled in blue. and if so is this what is causing the clunk to happen when accelerating? i also get the same clunk sometimes when the tranny is shifting in wot and the shifter will actually pop up a little bit.

by the tail shaft of the tranny in the pic above with a stud going thru the cross member and two bolts holding it to the transmission pretty simple to change...

your best bet is to foot the extra bucks and put in a poly mount and be done with it

Yep. poly mount for sure. It's real easy to change. I was all ready to take off the whole crossmember to do it, and then I checked my repair manual just to be sure, and lo and behold, all I had to do was put a board under the pan, undo the bolt, jack the tranny up a bit, bada bing bada boom done in 5 minutes with an impact wrench.

Have many rags available.
Take it easy on tranny due to aluminum tailshaft. Only need to lift the tranny end just enough, no need to use lift & move mountains.
Very dirty greasy job.
15mm bolts, too.
Raise car from back to access mount easier.
Overclock your vehicle had excessive tranny vibrations due to poly mount bushing?
First complaint I ever heard on that detail.
Rubber ones go for $7 or so.
But Poly is $35 or so, right?

Yup...poly bushings have a lot more vibration. I originally took it out trying to locate a 70+MPH vibration, but it's more comfortable now at all speeds. Honestly I've had this rubber one in for quite a while and it hasn't broke yet.
It's behind a 305TPI, not a V6.

Your convert, Right?
THANKS Ovrclk350!
Yeah I've been running my swap meet $7 bushing for a bit too.
The oil leaks wear the rubber ones out much quicker along with right foot/power braking action.
Part of the fun
One of the dirtiest greasiest jobs is replacing that mount.
Takes longer to set car up in air securely than changing it!
Cheaters way to attack is set car on driveway entrance incline & squeeze under to reach & swap out bushing.

KED85 i paid 25.00 for mine jsut think in the longrun you will save money since mine has not broke and you will also save time by not haveing to change it. I opt for the extra 15.00.

I gotta say for $7, my solution was a perfect choice.
For the Corvette, Poly Tranny Bushing was ONLY choice!
I'd do same again when I start to hit the swap meets again one day.
With mor secure engine mounts under the hood, rubber is fine working option.
Just know going in, ya gonna get really greasey!
And Women love it when ya hug them with greasey arms! LOL!!

got the new mount in. no more "clunk". had to take off the cross member to do it though cuz i couldnt get enoguh leverage on one of the bolts from the mount to the tranny. now does anyone have a picture of wat the poly mount looks like because i mite be interested in that due to the fact that i brake stand waaaaaay more than i need to. will a poly mount hold up better to this as well?

See the pic in this thread!
And the pic, the mount is assmebled on car, 100% correct.
That extra plate MUST be used.
Bummer ya had the extra work on cross member removal.

I had to remove my crossmember but it was a pain becasue the poly mount didnt line up correct and i had to make it fit. I had the same problem with it on my 68 Firebird with ES.

I wish they made a poly mount for my firebird i searched high and low but no one makes them in the style i needed. I had a hardenouth time finding them in rubber even with the partnumber from an old recipt i found. Im gonna have fun with a good old torq strap.

On my 1986 Firebird 400.
I went thru motor mounts like every other month.
Back in 1981/82 I probably used up the stock you seached for.
Torque strap is a CHAIN and grade 8 bolts. Chain attaches on driver side cylnder head, a front bolt.
Attach to frame, on a-arm.
I have a set of the factory ones used for my 1967 Camaro.
My 1968 Firbird, did not have that strap. Later on found out about it.
Be glad you do not have poly engine mounts. BUT with your 455 mill, yeah not a bad desired choice either!

Polyurethane Trans. Mounts
Chemicals, excessive movement and overall time in
general can take its toll on one of the most crucial
components of your driveline. . . the transmission
mount! Once available only in deteriorative rubber
compound, these mounts are now available in a longer
lasting and very durable polyurethane material. For
those seeking a quality replacement transmission mount
on a modified or original Firebird, these mounts,
(available in 4 popular colors) will do the trick and add
a performance appearance when using the bright colors
available. Polyurethane mounts can last longer than
factory mounts and offer years of dependable service.

I orderd them they were a compleatly different style then what i had taken off. I got a set through them and through jegs both sets i got were identical so i finaly ahd to settle with rubber. I called a guy who made solid mounts and he said that no one makes the ones i needed in poly.

Fast RS has not offered enough information.
His challenge was placing a mid 70's Pontiac 455 into a First Gen Firebird.
It's a unique challenge to say the least.
PS Try doing the exhaust properly, using headers, and a rear streeing box.
Camaro is EASY in that challenge of larger mills & rear steering box.
"K" Member is Chrysler speak. But I understood.
