If you can afford one, sure.

Get all matching engine management electronics required, and most likely matching tranny. custom motor mount brackets, new fuel pump, etc.... basically what I did w/the 3800 swap.

edit: That engine worth at least 3x what your car is

Looks to me like the 3.6 has a different bolt pattern than our 60º

Re: 3.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I can tell after months of looking at the same idea is that it can be done. However the engines aren't cheap, if you want to run a manual 6 speed trans (the Aisin ay6 from the CTS) it will be hard to find. The good new here is that you can use a 700r4 automatic with the proper parts and since that will fit I am fairly sure the standard f-body 5 speed will also work. The engine mounts will have to be fabricated, this could be a problem with the starters location along side the block. At that point you will need to swap you fuel pump and lines, all engine related electronics and wiring, as well as upgrade to a V8 radiator. So yes it can be done just wont be easy.

Re: 3.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will basically involve the same issues as any FWD swap. You are going to need to start with a tubular k-member.

With a tubular k, custom motor mounts, oil filter relocation kit, and a few other small items, it's not a bad swap. I know a guy who put a 3400 in a 4thgen Camaro.

You are better off going with a 3400/3500 swap for cost and simplicity. They bolt right to the tranny.

If you can afford one, sure.

#1 I feel that a 3800 is a waste of time since more power can be made with a hybrid or full 60* 3x00 swap (Dave just hit 273whp N/A with a 3500). Not to knock your swap, but that is only my opinion.

#2 With the newer motors it's going to take a lot more to swap harnesses and and tranny over. The newer cars have all the sensors integrated into the ECM. This means everything from seat-belts to the fuel door, trunk lid sensor, ABS etc, etc. You would have to install about 1mile of wires to get it to work right.

The new Pontiac G6's have that motor, 285hp. I find 3500's (225hp) from G6/Malibu's all the time for the same price as any other JY motor. Depends on availability and demand. Right now now many people are demanding the 3500's, and I get them from insurance wreckers to pull the top ends off (then port/polish etc and sell them).

Re: 3.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a good engine that isn't an overhead cam, I would suggest the 3.9, its still a 60 degree engine and has similar internals to the 3.6 such as the forged crank, rods and hypertunetic pistons stock.

3900 has to have the VVT disabled, and something done about the variable intake design.

They DO NOT come with a forged crank, GM now uses steel in a casting/machining process.

3500 non-VVT is the easiest/cheapest route. Yes the 3900 and 3.6 have similar characteristics, but both are really a new generation of 660. They both have increased bore spacing, and a lot of prts from older 660's are not interchangable. Most all the important parts from a 3500 will bolt right into/onto a 3.1 on up. The 3500 heads will not work on a 2.8/3.1 bore (3400 heads will), baut all other factors are similar.

In fact the 3500 is just now getting aftermarket support (remember it debuted in 2004) because most are just now comming out of warrantee.

As I said, if you copy some of the mods being done to the 3500 by other memebrs (or 3.4/3500 hybrid) then you can achieve the same numbers you will get from a 3.6/3900.

3500's can be had for as little as $300 with less then 30k miles. I just dissasembled one in the shop, and another is being delivered Thurs. I also have about 10 sets of various generations of 660's to make comparisons to.

Do what you will, but I've said my $.02.
