3.1 crank pulley
ok i know what i'm gonna ask isn't about a firebird or camaro but it is a chevy 3.1 V-6.
So onto the ?. Vehicle is a celeberty(sp?) apparently the pulley fell off so now you got the main crank pulley thing and the belt holder. what would cause that just old part? or something worse cause it's for a friend and i don't want to screw up their car by just doing a simple old->new swap and end up the crank is busted. so any help would be great and what is invovled replacing a crank pulley

crank... pulley.. fell.. off.. ?
uhm... ..... I wouldn't touch that.. with the longest pole I could get my hands on.. crank pulleys don't fall off.. they're secured by 4 13mm and one 18mm bolt, 13mm torqued to over 20 ft-lbs, 18mm torqued to 85!!! The 4 13mm are bolted to the balancer, which in itself should be impossible to fall off... the 18mm retaining the pulley/balancer to the crank.. unless they did something totally crackheaded with the FWD motors, there's a PROBLEM there.. like the balancer having completely annihilated itself or something...

Well,
I have to say I am with TechSmurf on this matter <crank... pulley.. fell.. off..!>
This isnt something that should happen unless your friend drives a 90ish 1.6L made by a import car comapny that name starts with a "M" I would know about the 1.6 with the bad crank that allows them to fall off since I had one(lucky mine always stayed attached!)
Even with the bad 1.6 most of the issues was after someone had replaced a t-belt on the cars and the pulley wasnt installed right which messed it all up in the end (but some of them just broke)
My Mom's husband has 2 celbs (one was the wife's car before my mom) the 2nd is a junk parts car. The main car has been a really great car.
Use some Jb-weld if the crank keyward is bad(if the 2.8-3.1 has a keyward) on the 1.6 it was that simple if you was lucky and if you wasnt lucky it was replace the motor to fit the newer designed crank that wasnt as easy to scew up!
Either way good luck with it!
