Where are the neutral switch and reverse light wires on an auto
Im in the middle of my auto -> manual swap and I am trying to find the wires for the reverse lights and the neutral safety switch. The only wires I found that look even close to the wires on the clutch switch are on a 6 wire connectiong that was in the center console. This makes sense but Im not sure if they are the right ones. They are purple and yellow.
As far as the reverse light wires go, I have no clue where they are. I assume they would be on the same connection as the neutral wires but I am not sure which wires they are and what the other 2 wires would be for.
Little help?

The neutral & reverse wires for an auto are connected to the switch by the shifter. IOW: they are shifter activated.
If the purple wires are a larger-then-normal size then they are the park/neutral safety wires. Common color for GM vehicles.
Don't know the year of your car, but if it has an airbag then the yellow wires may be for one of the sensors. IIRC there is a sensor mounted under the console in that area.

MrDude_1, they changed the wire colors in 1990. That info doesn't quite work for this. I've answered this in the other thread, but I guess I'll toss the answer in here too
82-89 only:
Reverse Switch: Dark Blue - Light Blue
P/N Starter Switch: Yellow - Purple
P/N ECU Switch: Orange/Black - Black

ok, thanks guys, but then what is the point of those 2 other wires (the orange/black and the black ones) and where should they be wired to?

For a stick car leave the orange/blk wire open. The black wire should be tied to ground. So can just leave them both open. With a stick car the ECM is left believing that the trans is always in drive.
TechSmurf, it is funny how after so many years of using the same color purple for both ends of the safety/neutral switch GM up and decided to make one yellow. I wonder if maybe they got a good price on a bunch of yellow wire.

RBob,
if the computer thinks the car is always in drive, you wont be able to start the car will you? From what I remember, you were not able to start the car when it was in drive with the auto tranny. I guess Im confused......

the two thick wires are your starter lockout.... when it was a auto, they were connected only in park and nutural
now that you have a auto, you need to extend the wires to the switch that gets press when the clutch is too the floor. that way, you cannot start the car until the clutch is in.
