Tuneup questions

Okay, after I get the garage cleaned out and my car running well enough to get it in there, I'm going to give it the TomP tuneup. However, I want to make a few additions to the tuneup in that I want to replace the timing chain and check the water pump as well. I tried to remove the water pump before when I had a coolant leak and I could not for the life of me move the power steering pump bracket. Do I have to remove the pulley and then the pump from the bracket to get the bracket to move? I used a pretty good size pry bar on the bracket and it just wouldn't move but maybe a quarter inch. I know for sure that I am probably going to have to replace the timing cover gasket (I am very sure that is where my leak is that I have filled temporarily with JB Weld) and I have already bought the waterpump gasket and had it for some time now. Any tips will be much appreciated.

there should be two bolts on the front that you have to take off and then i took off two nuts on the back side. if you get back there w/ a light youll see an L-shaped braket on the back side. there are only 4 that you need to take off and youre all set. IIRC, theyre two 13mm's on the back.

I already removed the nuts for that bracket. It rattles like s**t when I run the engine. Are the bolts located under the pulley, becuase those are the only ones I see besides the one I already removed.

there are a couple of bolts off to the left if youre looking at the bracket. they bolt to the head. the ones youre talking about bolt the pump to the bracket. look at the drivers side head on the front of it. youll see where the bolts go to.

i take that back, one bolts to the waterpump, the other to the head. if you have A/C, it may be under there.

Okay, I take what I just said back. Do I have to have the A/C evacuated to do this, or can I just move the compressor? (I think I'll have it evacuated some time in the future so I can remove all but the compressor anyways.

you can just unbolt the compressor and set it out of the way. i dont know if it will be in the way or if you can get at it under the compressor. i dont have A/C on mine. look under the compressor and see if you can see one extra bolt going to the p/s bracket.

Yeah there's no reason to yank the bracket off of the p/s pump!! Don't go pulling the pulley off!

Remove the bracket from the motor, don't remove the pump from the bracket. The bolts are there, just give it another look. I think we've had 5 guys in here already that have yanked the pulley off the pump!

I just wish I knew that the other bracket bolt is underneath the compressor when I tried before.

Now you know why I ask before I "shoot"! I hate people who "shoot"before they ask questions! (Unless it's a special set of circumstances, but we won't go into that) I am sending the M.O. for my ECM into the mail tomorrow and should have the ECM in about two weeks, and then I can get started.

Also, what can happen to the engine if it has been run with synthetic oil for quite a long time (unknown how long a duration, but the oil looked like mud when I changed it to the Valvoline VR-1 60W racing oil that started the whole lifter mess) and all of a sudden I switch to fossil oils?
