1989 Pontiac Firebird, 2.8L V6, auto transmission, no mods with 112 000. I tought some of you might like to hear news from a little 2.8 'cause it's pretty hard to find some results for these cars.

that's not bad for the 2.8. By the way, I love that color man. What gears do you have and is that a one wheel squealer?

actually, i take that back. 9.5 in the 1/8th mile is damn fast for a 2.8. My LG4 went 10.5 at 68.2mph with a 2.44 60 foot in the 1/8th. Are you absolutely sure it's stock? That would be a mid to low 15s 1/4 mile time. What was your mph?

i don't wanna be sound mean but, that's a short track....there is no way it ran 9.5 on a stock v6. my modded v6 hasn't gone 9.5 yet. it might now though with the 4.10s and posi i just put in.

I don't doubt at all that you ran a 9.5. If you said you did and it was at the track and you have the slip, then you did. I am just questioning the whole "stock" part. There is no way a stock 2.8 V6 can go 9.5 in the 1/8th, or mid to low 15s in the 1/4. Not even the 3.1L or the LG4 305 V8 did that stock.

For a comparo -
Stock 2.8 here ('88 in good tune) ran a 10.9 1/8th. I'm hoping to hit a 9.5 1/8th with like 6-8 psi from the turbo!

I'd like to see a pic of the timeslip on here, cuz I can't see how a stock or even a slightly modded 2.8 can run a 9.5 1/8th mile. My LB9 with minor mods and a 5 speed i bet won't even do that.

nice car bird2nv, any pics? A timeslip would be nice, plus 9.5 1/8th miles are usually 14 sec cars

your car is nice man. which side of the slip is yours, and do you think you could type out the times, markers, and speed? Also, is the track at a certain elevation? Those times could be below sea level.

it looks like the left side car ran a 9.1 at like 62.X and the right car ran at like 54mph only it says that one won. I am really confused now. Maybe more than the 60 foot was broken at the track. I know for a fact that my car ran 10.572 at 67.38mph in the 1/8th. The 1/4 mile time for that exact run is 16.45 at 81.99mph. Just take that into account. I don't see any speeds on that slip in the 70 mph range, so I don't see 9.5 1/8th miles possible.

I didn't want to, but I am going to have to break down and use this for the first time. . There is no way you did that with a stock 2.8 auto. It is impossible. I ran a 9.55 in the 1/8 mile and I run mid 14's at 95 mph. Check my sig for details on the car. I really don't think your telling the truth about either the times or the "stockness" of your car. But it is a very good looking bird, I'll give you that.

I'm on the right sideon the slip. The other guy did a red light that's why I have won on this one. I think the track wasn't really a 1/8 when I compare my times with other...

It had to have been a 1/8th mile track. There are only 2 types of tracks, 1/4 and 1/8th mile....and we all know it wasnt a 1/4 mile track.

The 1/8th in Mobile is ~60' short of an 1/8th.... I think its 60' anyway, but I'm positive its short. Not sure why, but it is..... anything is possible *shrug* All I know is that a stock 2.8L has 0 chance of running a 9.5 in the 1/8th

I keep seeing this thhis post everywhere, think you have it in the racing area also?
Anyways, sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, but put a locking rearend in it and some good tires and lets see a burnout. My mama's minivan can do a pegleg burnout like that on her hard k-mart tire also. Your boasting with the wrong car partner, just a heads up for you. We do not have motors that are known to be fast- and your is no freak motor form the factory- something is very wrong with your timeslip and figures.

No kidding on the burnout... stock 215/65/15s went up no problem when I got the '88... put some 255/50/16 ZR50s back there, and all of a sudden, burning out was something that you had to work at. Of course, a full tune up, increased timing, and no cat let me light the one-tire-fryer up again. Once i get a Zexel Torsen back there though.. it's gonna get hard again!
