Turbo Update
A couple things... I'm in the midst of a sudden move,so the car's not getting the attention she deserves... pipes are done up to the Y/Flange for the turbo. I pulled the turbo apart, and cleaned it. Next i'm going to port it.
I have had a bit of a setback. Turns out not ALL 5.0L FORDS USED 19PPH INJECTORS!! ONLY the 5.0 HO did. So I've got a set of 15pph injectors, freshly cleaned, with nowhere to go. Check my ad in the classifieds -
https://www.thirdgen.org/classifieds...tgo?adid=25141
Paid $75 for the cleaning, got them for free, worth about $120, selling for $60.
I'm on the trail of a set of 22lbs/hr injectors tho, so all may not be lost!

What color were them injectors? Also, what is the "part number" on the side.
I have a set of what I belive are ford 19pph injectors that I had installed in my dodge, not being used. If them 22lbs dont come thru, get with me. We might work something out

19 lb/hr injectors are color-coded orange.
If I had the money I'd have a set of 24 lb/hr's and a matching MAF and I'd send my 19's your way...but I'm broke.

LOL, thanks for the support guys... I'm working on getting a set of 22lb'ers, and the current chip will do fine... it'll be slightly rich, which should be ok with it being turbo'd and all. BOV and everything else is in. The ONLY thing left to buy is the boost gauge. I'm working on it every single spare second I have, but with 2 jobs (work 4pm-6am then sleep) it's really hard. I'm getting there tho!

Hey keep us posted. And GET PICS!!! Oh, btw- I got some stock LT1 injectors. Not sure of the size...either 22 or 24lb. I'll take $75 for the set of 8. Do what u want with the extra 2
EDIT:
I don't have the time to go read the entire turbo post for specifics...please somebody give me a rundown of the electronics you're using. I'd like to replicate this setup in a Chevette or Vega. I think something that weighs less than 2900lbs. would fly with a turbo'd 60* V6

Why a Chevette or Vega? My V6 Camaro weighs 2950 with a half tank, and without my 200lbs of me in it....
Electronics?
Stock, with a recalibrated prom. That's it.

Sorry for the lack of updates... real quick, exhaust is welded, Y pipe/brackets go in Monday, and turbo is cleaned, primed, clocked, and set to go in... barbs set for the oil/water, and associated lines are ready. Air intake from filter to maf to turbo is done. Connection from turbo to intercooler is ready. Need to run from intercooler to TB still.... and the injector scene is still in progress....

Doward, I got the turbo almost set up in Autocad so I can begin to work on the bracketry, however we'll need the car over here to fab the bracket to the car itself.
*just wanna do this one cuz AFM doesn't have it... *

Doward over at Vortex's place, working on the turbo -
Yes, it'll be dyno'd... hoping to get pics of it at the Ocala fl-thirdgen meet tonight...
no making fun of the body, tho! Remember... turbo, then bodywork
I can already see some clearancing that will be done in the production run. With the suspension under load, the passanger side pipe is like 1/2" off the ground. Didn't get as tight as I thought - the driver side is only 1.7" lower than normal!
With all the work on this in the last couple days... I can honestly say guys, if it weren't for the fact I'm only $200 into this, I would never recommend building a turbo system from scratch. For the $$ spent, I'd put it elsewhere.
A turbo kit I'd be all over... but custom doing your own is INCREDIBLY time consuming, difficult, and the cause of more than one grey hair!

Hmm We can only conclude from the lack of updates that Doward finished the turbo project.
On the initail test drive the turbo spun soo fast his speed increased to warp 9.9 and he was instantly transported back in time. At this moment he is changing the history of travel as we know it, by the time this thread is read history as we know will forever be altered and all 3rdgens will have 2.8 turbo engines. fNord will have never exisited and there will be no such thing as an import automobile. Life will be good.

Hey all, it's Vortex.
We got the turbo mounted and everything ready.. we took the car to get the Y-pipe welded to the pipes and the flange, as well as get the downpipe made and welded on, Well, we dropped it off and they worked on it for an hour after they were closed when we were already late for the 3rd gen meet. Got it back and found out that they took off all our mandrel bends in replace of new *sigh* crimp bends. So, we went to the meet and it was cool, even for a Mustang guy.
Anyway, The turbo is mounted, and the piping is done.. now all we have to do is the oil and water lines. and bolt in the inducting tracking... I start work Monday so time is limited, but 98% chance we should have it done by wednesday so that we can get it to the track for some real results for you.
Oh, by the way, we just had to start it, and it does spin... and best of all move some air... thought i saw doward drop a tear at that..
Laaaaaaaaate

no, they didn't give them back.. they butchered them coming off. and yeah, $100 for the bends.. so needless to say not only did that set back as far as $$ goes, but time as well.. and doward get your *** over here, im not running this lines by myself.... well, yeah, i will, but that will just mean i get more track time than you.. and im even donating a present to the cause..

What were the bends that were replaced in there for, the down pipe? Maybe they were just jealous. LOL

no, they custom made the downpipe which we wanted from them regardless of the crimp bends... however, the mandrels came from the manifolds forward towards the radiator... nice smooth flowing pipes instead we now have restrictive "eh" pipes... but at least the turbo fits and bolts up...

Yea but reguardless of the crimp bends your still ahead of the game as long as the turbo does its job.
Pushing the project along here.

Doward here again, over at Vortex's place
Turbo setup is DONE. Kinda... sorta...
Well, just have to seal one pipe - the oil feed line. Shouldn't be a problem, though. Injectors/chip/piping/etc are all done. IC is in. Everything's together - coolant lines, oil pan tapped/line set (Vortex's own handiwork there - thanks man!)
Unfortunately, I'm working 16 hour days over the next 3. Nice $$, but no time.
Look for pics, results, and all next week.

Interesting, intersting indeed.
One thing I will mention, is that elbow you have on the IC, use another clamp, or maybe a pair and put it/them on the area that actually bends, this will keep it from ballooning under boost, I know I am using the same type of tubing on my swap, until I get to higher boost levels and need the silicone bellows.
Looks like there is a little more room between the engine and the rad than in my Jimmy, I wish I had that amount of room, I would have mounted mine there as well.
Just wondering how ground clearance is, with the Y-pipe? Doesn't look like it hangs too low, but I'm not especially familar with how low the crossmember hangs on the F-body, I like how it runs though.
I can't tell from the pics, Where is your oil drain back, going to? It also looks like you mounted the turbo "upsidedown", if that's teh case, did you turn the bearing housing to compensate, or did you just turn the turbine housing over?
Keep it up, great to see DIY projects coming together.

And I thought I had a lot of pvc going on.
How are you planning on getting air flow to the intercooler? Remove one of the headlights & rig the other to be both high & low beam?
keep it up

Have you taken it for a drive yet? How does it run?

Yes ladies and gents, it's set up. I know it's not too pretty, but this is a rough prototype - production will be stainless steel mandrel bends throughout (no pvc, sorry, lol!)
We've just got a couple oil problems to take care of, then she'll be taken to the track. Vortex's Mustang runs a 14.7 - I'll probably line up against him Monday or Tuesday, and see how close to a mid 14 we are.
Here's hoping!!!
