You have to ground the diagnostic terminal on the ALCL connector. This is the female plug that is just below the dash to the right of the steering wheel, and to the left of the stereo. There's a black cover on it. All you have to do is turn the car to run, and connect the two terminals in the top row, on the right. Then your fan will come on and the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light will start flashing. Ex. flash pause flash flash, long pause, flash pause flash flash. This is code twelve which should always flash first. If it doesn't there's something wrong. 12 will flash 3 times, and the next code will flash 3 times. When all the codes have been given it will start again with twelve. To reset the codes just disconnect the neg bat cable and then plug it back in. Also, don't be fooled be a code 42 (EST) as this will set when you unplug the EST to set your timing.

If your code was 4 blinks, pause, 5 blinks...repeated 3 times...then it's a 45.

Code 45 is oxygen sensor indicates rich condition.

i figured it out. yesterday i was running monster wire for possible future amp install and i unplugged the two connecters in the far left hand top side of the hood (drivers side). only i forgot to plug thm back in. left for work, car drove allright, just took along time to start. plugged them back in today, flashed ecm (unplugged batt for fifteeen minutes) and now my check engine light still comes on, when i test for the codes it gives me twelve three times, then again three more times, then three more times. wtf? how do i make this go away, twelve means No reference pulses to Electronic Control Module (ECM). that means all is well, so why is the light still on? *** i suck at this, annyway i am leaving for a while (4 hours) i willlooma t this again when i get back, hope to hear from you thanks in advance for all the help.

If it's repeating 12's, then there's nothing wrong with the car and no code is being thrown. If your light is still coming on...maybe something got messed up in the wiring, etc. for the light?

I've noticed that sometimes when a code is stored, it will later disappear even if the codes haven't been reset. Strange, but true.

it's off now, it just took a couple of restarts, thanks for the help by the way.... all is well again

moral of the story: once work is done be SURE you have connected everything back up correctly before you fire the engine. none of this would have even come up... my only hope is that others can look at this and not follow in my footsteps
