For the record, I have promised Karl a free set of my Hooker headers (not smog legal- but great race ready) as a present for when he gets Pacesertter to build smog legal headers- Just a present to him to help fund the cause- He can sell them or keep them, what ever he wishes

Thanks Karls for keeping this alive. I want to see the 1st generation 60*V6 stay around and become know as a viable powerplant.

I also must state that NO INCENTIVE is necessary because....
ALL OF US HERE have a chance to get a product MANY 3rd Gen V6-ers seek
AN EFFICENT EXHAUST SYSTEM.
I say a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL that share in this mission.

I made this happen......
NO, THE COLLECTIVE VOICE OF US THIRD GEN V6 UNDERDOGS HERE have made this opportunity a possible reality.

It seems we may make this work during next week due to holidays.
See we all got something now for which to be THANKFUL!

Stay tuned, Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel!

i have a question. i live in oregon, i know Cali-testers ar a PITA.

NOT REALLY
In the end, one still has a car that drives well, gets good gas milage & is not a polluting stinker to society.
IF your car is in good shape, generally, the car will pass a CA Smog test, without too much trouble.
What s a pain is that somehow my car is tagged for always going to a smog check only place. That test is more expensive (like double) but, I still pass even that smog testing.

Using illegal headers in Oregon....
That's your call.
I used to get "illegal" smog stickers, but in the end, the process was soon outweighted by the extra effort. I discovered it was easier to get the car to run right & be ready to pass smog, then to search for a new "illegal smog sticker" source every two years. And that "sticker" price was always rising, never same as before. My first illegal sticker cost me $24 & a cold 6 pack. AHH The good ol days!

2_point8_boy & I are chatting. I'll also be chatting with Mr. Fred Gerle @ PaceSetter Exhaust, myself, soon.
fgerle@pacesetterexhaust.com
Have a Happy Thanksgiving all.
PS I found out I'm gonna be a Dad again. Way great Thanksgiving gift, too!

I got a reply from Mr. Gerle already and he said that it's a good possibility that they may be able to set something up. VERY, VERY encouraging news. he is going to get back to me in the coming week to let me know what all we have to do to get this done. Looks like it might happen before the end of the year guys, we may have something in the hands of CARB by January!!!

I emailed Mr. Gerle today and immediately received the following response: "I need a car". I would love to help but I don't think that I can explain to my wife, kids, and grandkids (as well as my employer) that I won't be home for Xmas.

KED85:
my question was not how much does it cost to forge illegal smog stickers (interesting info though, a the good old days.) i was wondering if the brain dead half literate barley speak english guys they have working at the DEQ will even notice? i have never seen them do anything more then hook the nosle up to the exhaust pipe and test the chemicles. i was wondering if i could pass DEQ testing with illegal race ready headers

Xophertony -
You're asking if installing "headers" on our clean burning modern engines will cause emissions to rise.
To the point of non-passage due to the specs of Oregon emission testing.
Seems it "shouldn't".
Why?
What does an exhaust system do, but let hot exhaust gases pass....
These "street Legal headers" will have all emissions hook ups.
Seems IF your "set of pipes" does also (have the emission hook ups) you should be good to pass "go".

the brain dead half literate barley speak english guys they have working at the DEQ
BE NICE
Those people may hold the ability for you to drive legally on your Oregon streets!

Are you saying you want them to pay for you to stay somewhere??? Somehow I don't see that happening.... We should be thankful they are even considering the endeavor...

Well, when I talked to him last week he said that it was a very good possibility. I think that he realizes that there is enough demand for this that the benifits FAR outweigh hooking someone up with a room to stay in for the night. We'll see what happens though.

Mr. Fred Gerle is an extremley excellent gent, at a company that is seriously interested in producing this product.
Mr. Gerle is the one to get the "extra" help (which doesn't add$ much to this product project budget).
Everyone please keep sending kind short emails regarding this opportunity.
Give yourself the gift of Higher Performance!

fgerle@PaceSetterExhaust.com is his email address.
Wish him a happy holiday, too!
Thanks everyone for your support

He is an awesome guy and is doing what is in his power to help us out. I think that this project will be totally fabed for us except for the flanges...which they already have measured up. I think everything else will be new.

I can't remember if this is mentioned in this post, and I'm too lazy to look.

I would assume wiht the headers, some Y-pipe would have to be available right?

I am almost 90% very ready to go right now.
What's hold up for me?

Couple things

-Christmas real soon (will engineers be there?)
-Needing one front tire & a good leak free spare!
-I have located another house to buy & am awaiting escrow to open so I can safely split town & know a deal is being done on my behalf. This "other" house purchase is the biggest hold up right now for me!

Actually am gonna send Mr. Fred Gerle a Christmas card Weds. (after I locate the mailing address). I did my Christmas shopping (except a new coat for my Wife & fixing/make operate my 1950's Lionel Trains for my 3 year old Son), fixed almost everything on my Firebird that needed it, too!
Damn, I really enjoy driving this Firebird!

Everyone, Send Mr. Fred Gerle (fgerle@paceSetterexhaust.com) a quick email & a Christmas wish of Street Legal Headers for our rides! MAKE SURE YOU THANK HIM, TOO!

I firmly believe I'll be going to Phoenix without a problem after Christmas. Even if I need purchase a tire, instead of a swap meet tire purchase!
Operating Heater in Chilly SoCal weather sure feels great!!!!!

WOW....I read the original thread so long ago, but then it didn't gather much attention so I figured that it had died off. Having just finished with fall semester of college I am now returning to the Camaro world I once belonged to. This idea is AWESOME!!! I will definately send him an email, wish i could do it myself!!!!

I am currently going to put a 3.4 exhaust manifold set onto my 89 RS 2.8: has anyone ever had any problems removing their original manifolds, i mean the bolts specifically. I talked to a friend of mine and he said that his experience with removing manifolds off of third gen v6 camaro engines included stripping several bolts because the original bolts were very low quality...any truth to that??

Anyway....KEEP IT GOING!! I WANT THOSE HEADERS!!!

Just so ya know
THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO DIFFERENCE IN THE 3.4 manifolds & the 2.8 manifolds.
The castings are identical.
There is ABSOLUTLY NO FLOW ADVANTAGE to using the 3.4 manifolds.
I sent Mr. Fred Gerle a Christmas card thanking him for us.
Address for PaceSetter is on their website.
I still plan on heading out after Christmas.
I only need get this next house bought (open escrow), then paperwork can flow for a month & I need not be here in town!

i was under the impression that the 2.8 exhaust manifold was restrictive...wasn't there an entire topic based on this? I guess I could just have it machined to make it better...oh well...a little more work.

You misunderstood.
Open your car hood.
Go to passenger side.
Stare down at exhaust "Y" pipe.
See that junction?
THAT'S RESTRICTIVE!
a 4th Gen 60*V6 exhuast ystem "Y" pipe is LESS restrictive & more free flowing.
Await headers as the header "package" will include a Hi Flo "Y" pipe (yeah, ya pay extra for that part).
No no idea on header price.
We all awiat a product to purchase.
Keep tuned to this Bat Channel for further updates!
Really just go get a better muffler for now & await better full on exhaust system to help your 2.8.
Also make sure your current CC is a high flo item, too.
IF original CC, strongly consider replacing it with a 2 1/2" in & out HI Flo CC.
Don't waste any effort on the stock manifolds, unless they now leak exhaust fumes.

Yes, that's correct.
Mr. Fred Gerle informed me of a volunteer closer to Phoenix than myself.
Work is in progress, we await an update from PaceSetter.
I am attempting to also try to get us a group discount on the after the CC pipes, the 2 1/2" "I" pipe to their muffler.
No word back yet.
Keep up the kind pressure on Mr. Gerle & Pace Setter informing them how serious we our to spend our money at PaceSetter on their products.
