Rounded off bolt

So I went to change the oil today, being as it's a couple months overdue, and tried (key word tried) to take off the lower bolt to let the oil drip out. The stupid thing is ROUNDED OFF!!$@#@ Not to mention it is on there TIGHT, and I mean TIGHT. I really don't want to take it to one lube shop, it's an extra 10-15 bux that I could use afterall. Anything like this on your guys F-body's? What do you guys use for it??

Rounded over bolt

I saw a set of damaged nut removers at Sears. I wanted to get 'em but didn't have any damaged nuts to use them on! Here is a link: http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summ...id=00952160000
If you get them, let me know if the work! Has any one else used these?

Vise grips, they can grip basically anything if you lock them on tight enough.

If that doesnt work, mini pipe wrench, they are made for gripping pipes. (which are round)

Once you get the bolt off, take it up to an auto parts store and have them find you one that will work as a replacement.

i agree with lee, there is nothing that can stand in the way of vice grips, unless of course you shave off all the metal with the teeth:sillylol:

Anywhere... hell, they got $14.95 oil changes here. Then they try to tell you you need the diff fluid changed, too, that's like $40, and they show you your nasty diff fluid - they don't tell you in 2 days, the new fluid looks just as nasty!!

I don't trust ANYONE to work on my car, without me. Nobody changes my oil - I don't know what cheap junk they'll put in my car.

I've heard of those shops keeping old containers with really old nasty oil, wiping some on a clean paper towel, and showing it to the customer claiming it's the customer's car's oil. And that's besides the fact that those idiots love to crank everything on over-tight... like oil drain bolts and transmission pans.

Another option you might want to try; use a metal file to restore two edges to the bolt. Then you can use an open-ended adjustable wrench on the nut. Plus, it might be even easier to grip with vise-grips if you change the nut's shape from "rounded off" to "mostly rounded off with two flat areas opposite each other".

Good luck! Let us know how it goes! Luckily you can -get- to that bolt, it's not somewhere hard to reach...
