A couple things -

TomP (and the rest of you guys) tell ya'll what... this all works out, the first kit I sell is gonna buy me a nice, new mig, that'll weld anything and everything. I'll be building all sorts of things for the 2.8!!

19pph are good till about 200hp. When I upgrade, 36 pph injectors will feed me till over 400hp. I'm just a bit worried about pw of the injectors @ idle with that sort of injectors size!

Remember guys, no one's done this. I'm not being stupid, and going out looking for 20+ psi and 500hp IMMEDIATELY. 200hp is a HEALTHY increase over stock, and all the parts will handle it, no problem. That's my starting point. I hit that, then I want 250, then 320. Anything over 320 is gravy, as far as I'm concerned.

The Firepower FP100 (eastwood, click here: http://www.eastwoodco.com/email/default.asp?T1=19295 ) is spec'd for 18 gauge to 3/16 inch.

The Schumacher mity-mite ( http://www.batterychargers.com/detai...90701&catid=22 ), the same one that JCWhitney sells, says "up to 3/16 inch". They don't give a minimum.

The Sears Craftsman 100 amp AC Stick welder (type in 00920675000 at craftsman.com) says up to 1/8 inch thickness, they don't give a mininum. The Sears Craftsman 100 amp AC Arc Welder (type in 00920139000 at craftsman.com) also says up to 1/8 inch thickness. Not sure what's different between these two models. Supposedly (at least a few years ago), the Craftsman welders are made by Schumacher or Century... I forget which.

I got a $500 4 power settings dul mig welder for $260
[mild, stainless and aluminum] but it does not come with a fan system installed, just the over load. So I get only about 5 mins of constant welding before it shuts off for a few mins. Its kind of lame but well worth the price difference.

I don't know now
something caught my attention about that post you made

so that was just what I picked out I think

but now that I look back I think a lot of it had to do with rev line on the rotary

there redline isn't limitless

problem is you start to run into e-shaft flex and that can cause some SERIOUD problems

13k might have happeend once or twice yeah

I know at 70ish I shifted my car into second once.. it happens

but you keep that up for long and you could easily start to tear stuff up

i got a p/h driver box thatll run down to 1msec. its a pretty easy wire up.so 92pph would be the limit.

The 220v one they got is sweet. It is worth it also, big time.
I shopped around for ever and could not even come close to the one I got for $260. Most stores has the 2 power one for much more and ones similar to that one are around $500.

It works good. Welded a bracket for my shock back onto my wagon.
[ It had ripped the bolts out of the a-arm.]

and I made a nice steel stand for my new 8in goose neck buffer.

he would have to send specially made turbo headers (usually called exaust manifolds) to you.

You would not be able to use whatever headers you currently have.

Not quite. The system I"m building uses the stock manifolds (for ease of use/design/whatever.

If you get some headers, I'd have to make 2 new pipes (the two that bolt to the Y pipe for the turbo... if I had a set in my possesion, it'd be nothing to make them

Um... off one side of the exhaust?

Wow... no offense... but I'd expect something... cleaner for a first turbo setup... what kind of car is that in?

I'm thinking of getting a 10" fan or so to mount on it... whenever it goes into boost, have the fan kick on.

Or have it on a switch, so I can kick it on for a little extra cooling heading down the track!

Doward, I hadn't read this in a while, nice to see things are coming together.

I agree, 19 injectors should be fine for now. Once you start bumping up psi, or other go go items, will need to upgrade them as well.

That engine you seen with aluminam heads, etc. That is in an old school s10 blazer, with a 2.8l rebuilt block under it. He did some verbal helping on my s10 engine swap.

Cant wait to see a video of you and here that "pshhh" sound as you go

Question is what is the sound of that BOV? All BOV's sound different. Some hiss, some chirp, some make a sound like they're barking the tires... I personally like the hisses and the chirps...

Just for reference here is a GSX (since the turbo being used is from a DSM anyway! ) with an aftermarket BOV. What kind of sound do you consider this to be?

I want that BOV! Not sure what the type H will sound like on my Camaro, but here's a clip of it revvin' in neutral (only a couple psi)

http://www.fastwrx.com/lib/fastwrx/typeh.mp3

Not a very good clip... but you get bet your rear when I get to the track, I WILL be getting a sound clip, and movie clip (if I can!)

Oh yeah... the Type H BOV is rated to 30psi, and sounds off @ 110db+ from 3 feet away.

Yeah, it should be REALLY loud.

hey if you look through the pics some more he made a cross over that goes to the turbo but the intake for the aluminum heads is the stock gen 2 fwd intake just turned 180 i asked him baout possible f body computer adaption he said prob not because there is no distributor much less a spot to mount it so you would have to use the fwd computer aswell but those heads have greater potential than the cast iron
splayed valves like a bbc heart shaped combustion cambers great porting can be done larger valves than a carb motor but the down falll is the exhaust ports are further apart than on the cast iron heads so you will need to modify fwd headers or make your own

I have -
  • Turbo (and placement)
  • Intercooler (and placement)
  • Turbo Chip (I guess that's what I should call it?)
  • Mandrel Bends
  • Exhaust Tubing
  • Steel Bracketry

I'm waiting for -
  • TurboXS type H Blow off valve
  • 19pph Injectors

I still need to buy -
  • Oil line and related hardware (T fitting and bulkhead connector for the oil pan)
  • Water related hardware (running from the TB coolant system)
  • Boost gauge
  • Conical Air Filter

Still need to do -
  • Weld the two tubes up
  • Build flange for Y fitting (turbo to pipes)
  • Build downpipe
  • Build brace for turbo
  • Run intake tract

A week or two more. If I can have the piping all done Friday, I'll be set to have the turbo in, and this weekend. I won't be actually running it until next week, when I get teh boost gauge in.

Here's hoping!

D,

I know you have already started working on placement but them with the turbo up into the hood or into the body work looks really trick. Like a ram air turbo.

Driver's side of the Y pipe is done. Passanger side is 1/2 done, and will finish it tomorrow.

The Y flange is being worked on, as well as the bracket for the turbo...

Bad news - my stupid digital cam is busted!! had a 10' stick of pipe fall on it Gonna go to Sears tomorrow to see what can be done about it.

Ummm...
Keep in mind that he has Heads, Intake, Headers etc.
He put a LOT of money into that engine.
And its a 3.4...
3.4>2.8-3.1

3.4 will make more power.

Passanger side is ALMOST done... Things have gotten crazy here, and I still don't have my injectors back... or my BOV yet... *grumbles*

I've just got one more extension on the Passanger side, then the Y connector, then the brackets... more as it comes together...

In the final stretch here!
