Do I have emissions equipment?
I've seen a lot of people talking about their emissions equipment (i.e. AIR pumps and what not) on their V6s. I am familiar with this equipment because I have an AIR pump, an AIR diverter valve, and emissions "pipes" comming out of the exhaust manifolds on my IROC. You can't miss that stuff on that engine...
But, my V6 car doesn't have any of that. As far as emissions equipment goes, all that I can see is that it has a catalytic converter (duh), but that's about it--no AIR pump or AIR diverter valve that I'm aware of. At least, there is none that I can see--certainly nothing that's driven off of the serpentine belt.
I'm just curious as to what V6 cars have that equipment and what cars don't. I've got an '88 Camaro SC with the 2.8L V6 MPFI. If I don't have any emissions equipment, I'm wondering how I passed emissions...

ripped a 2.8 out of an 87 bird. It had no emissions equipment. No smog pump or anything. However my dads 90 3.1 bird has the smog pump. Guess they left it out a few years

My 85 camaro has no emissions equipment either except for the cat and the EGR valve which I think has to do with emissions since it is recirculationg exhaust gasses. Also there is the PCV valve.

is it a California car. Mine has all of that stuff on it. I think they probably would have left the stuff that wasn't needed in a state that wasn't as **** on all of the smog stuff off. WOW, can you follow that. what I mean is if you live in a state where they didn't have the harsh smog laws, they might have left that stuff off to make it cheaper. I doubt it though, or the computers at pep boys would ask a lot more questions about the car when looking for belts.

Just because it has a smog pump does not mean it's a cali car. The presence/absense of such equipment changed from year to year and also depended on what trans you had. Many times manual cars got the smog pump while autos didn't and vice versa.
The only way to be sure if the car is a CA car is to look at the emission label under the hood.
