Where can you buy the ALDL plug for that cheap? or are you just inserting raw wires into the cars connector?
I can make a half-*** one but I would rather purchase a nice solid unit to have around for years.

I also want to make sure it has the proper transistors for the voltage match, I don't want to fry my new laptop for any odd reason

actually I put in wire taps to the back of the plug. It will be around for years. It has a quick disconnect set up for little wear.

Damn, CHC, it cost you $10? Musta got the super expensive stuff.. . I've built 3 so far for $7.

Yeah, I'm setting up a quick disconnect in my car, too... actually, a straight up serial port to hook a male/male DP9 to the laptop whenever I want, and a switch to set the ECM in ALDL mode

I really appreciate those words of wisdom that I am just wasting my money. Your cars must look as hacked as your wiring jobs. I personally like the professionalism of having a well equipped tool chest at my disposal. To waste my money would be to purchase the first thing i've seen without shopping for comparisons and if I want a hack job cable setup I am certainly capable of building one with wire splicers and a roll of electrical tape. So again I ask if anyone knows of a good cable WITH the proper ALDL connector.

I am remembering one from somewhere. If my gray matter is functional an Auto Xray cable available from Jegs or Summit rings a bell. It is just a jumper piece that has the correct ALDL connector that folks are searching for. May be worth checking out.

RBob.
Thanks for the tip Rob. They do have an interface cable for the Auto-xray scanner that has the ALDL 12-pin connector but It doesn't look to me from the picture that the other end is a RS232 9-pin compatible. I called Summit and they couldn't tell me anything other than it works with the Auto-xray units.http://store.summitracing.com/partde...57#largerimage

I've checked Ruse, Whittiker, AKM, Tunercat, Andrews, and TSS. TSS so far is the only to make a good cable, all others need to be spliced into the ALDL.

I'm going to check with Orvacs Electronics supply to see what kind of RS232 cable ends they sell and see if I can properly alter the Summit Auto-xray cable with the proper end and transistors without it looking botched.

There's a free diagnostic download called WinALDL That you can use. All you need is an interface cable like I am searching for. You can build a mickeymouse cable for cheap, I am looking for a good complete cable and don't mind spending extra money for that.
Here is the scanner download site, click on the version 1.09 download:http://www.winaldl.webhop.net/

get upsdet all you want. I am just saying that 100+ is way too much to pay for something that ony costs <$10 to make. Its your money do whatever you wnt with it. I consider spending that much for a <$10 cable a sever waste. I would make the $10 one, spend the rest on a cam or something more worth it.

BTW have fun sending your headers to carb.....

Go figure, comments like this from a guy I've tried to help, or does your memory fail you?

Tell you what, why don't you be a nice guy and build me one for ten bucks, then spend another ten bucks to ship it to me, and you'll still have $30 bucks left to send your headers to C.A.R.B like you have been promising to do for six months.

Well between us then these headers sitting in the
garage are on the way to Cali.
I am sick of messing around with these kids. My91RS
has still yet to pay for them, he claims "the
letter/M.O. got sent back to him" and then he forgot
to stop by Western Union, so... And all the "others"
that claim, "hey I want them, but not sending the $$".
I will finish these up, and get the neccesarey stuff
ready and send them out to CARB.

You know what freakin, People did start paying up. Quite frankly faster then I could make them. I said that I would send a set to CARB, and that set(after testing will go to Ked85). Afterall, he did not get 3 header threads locked did he?.

If you want to get all bent out of shape, then pleae by all means go right ahead. I could care less. I make these for the people that PAY for them.

Last I heard you were tring to make a set of your own and send to CARB, what happened to that? If you are in such a hurry go ahead and do it. Otherwise Quitcherbitchen.

I am a full time student, and school is more important to me then these headers. I will make more money with my schooling then I ever will with these headers. These headers as a side thing for me, Make a little extra $$$ and help some people out. So far people that have gotten them seems happy with what I sent them.
