Ya know I've only seen 15 gallons go in twice... even back when I used to run the tank empty to the point where the car would cut out when I was going straight. (This was before I knew that running empty can kill a fuel pump!) It did 15 gallons once when I used to run the tank empty, and on the last trip to VA Beach, at a pump-your-own, I think the pump overfilled me. I asked for $20 at pump # whatever, and it put the whole $20 in... something like 15.2 gallons... And i had an 1/8 tank left according to the gauge, so I know I must've overfilled it. But all the rest of the times, I only see a max of ~12.5 gallons go in.

Thank you. I was thinking maybe if the v8 had a bigger tank, of dropping one of them in, but I guess thats pointless. Thanks for the info.

Well supposedly some of the later model year 350 TPI tanks received special baffles... might want to do a search or ask on the main tech board about it.

the reason many of us can't put more than 13 or 14 gallons in when we run out is because the fuel pump is not at the bottom of the tank. This prevents the pump from sucking crap into it.

Dang! I always thought the tank was like 17 gallons and I have put in like 14.5 before.....Plus being a Chevy the gas gauge reads 1/4 when it's empty. My S-10 has read 1/3 when full and empty means you have about 60 miles left before empty.

If I don't run at least 3/8 of a tank of fuel I cavitate the fuel pickup area in the tank under hard corners. The gauge is perfectly accurate as for the empty mark. I can drive it down just before the e-mark in straight lines and mild corners without a bobble but the second I throw it through a turn hard the baffles won't hold the fuel in place well enough. I just have to make sure my tank is half full always.

Everything I've read said 15.5... I know I've put in 15.x a few times. Usually I just drive it until I notice it's coming down toward the E and I stick in $15 or so. But yeah, the times that I've run it almost all the way down and then filled it up, I got over 15 into it. The gauge is fun, it'll go from 3/4 all the way down past 1/4 if I have to make a quick stop on the freeway.

I've put 16 in mine, and had the slip to prove it, but lost it.
After reading all the discussions, to the best of my knowledge, there is only ONE tank for ALL thirdgens.

As far as I have read about some 1LE's is that they had a better fuel pick up. That allowed people to run their tanks down really low and still be able to get steady fuel flow.
Look in the Tech Data section then under the 1990 Camaro. It says this there:
"G92 with out air conditioning (C41) in addition to above adds 1LE performance package consisting of:
-Fog lamp delete
-Aluminum driveshaft (JG1)
-Aluminum spare wheel with smaller spare tire (N64)
-Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors and PBR Australian built HD front - dual piston aluminum calipers
-Special swinging fuel pickup in gas tank and special 18 gallon baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to .5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering "
That solves it, there was an 18 gallon tank not just the 15.5.

That would be interesting to have a 1LE V6, maybe someone gave you HUGE fuel lines and a HUGE fuel filter, that would be funny like Nascar or something.

yeah.. i can run mine really low. I try not to.. but on the whole.. there will be once or twice ina decade that ill actually forget gas and run it longer then when it stops moving past the 'E'.. and its still runs strong.. probably why i don't notice the gas guage all that much hehe..
bad for my car I can only assume.
