Basic Tranny Question

Ok...quick question...one that I would think is pretty basic and hopefully has an easy solution...if I take of hard...like punch it off the line (which is rarely)...I get this bang from my tranny and it almost feels like that tranny is moving...could this be a bad mount...cause I do also feel it vibrating somewhat at certain times and when my Torque Convertor locks up it seems to bang hard too as if its moving...now the tranny is recently rebuilt and shifts very smooth...except at those 2 conditions...any suggestions would be great

Sounds like your toque converter to fly wheel bolts are lose. Get new ones from GM and toque them up to the proper spec. There are three of them, easy to get to, just take off your inspection pan that covers the starter and fly wheel. I won't drive like this for long with out those new bots, it can reck your toque convert mountings. the reason use new bolts is becuase they will toque up better and have less of a chance of coming lose again.

Slide under the car, and try to push the tailshaft of the transmission up towards the sky. If you can move it at all upwards towards the floor, the mount is shot. If the trans won't budge, the mount is fine. (Everything hinges on the motor mounts, you don't need to be a strongman to push the trans tailshaft upward)

Thanx guyz...I'll have to try that Tom before I go and buy one...but from visual inspection...the mount was pretty cracked up already...but i'll have to do that this weekend...and i'll check those bolts on the flywheel also...cause that never crossed my mind....but the place who did my transmission also screwed up the TCC connector that I ended up repairing somehow...oh well...I'll see what happens

i had the same problem recently. it was the tranny mount. the banging you feel when you take off fast almost always means that the mount is broke.

Ok guyz...I'm gonna check it this weekend probably...I have had no time to actually get under there and check it...also I'm trying to get it ready for paint and I have a door I still have to shim so it doesn't hit the fender when I open it...but if it is the tranny mount...what would be the better one to buy...I know autozone has like an 8 dollar one then there is the polyurethane one for like 25...will the polyurethane one last longer???...damn transmission shop could have told me it was gone and I would have gladly had them replace it last time they were in the tranny...woulda cost me nothing except the part...oh well...thanx guyz and i'll keep you up to date...

Enjoy it will it's beautiful, I remember when I got my 1992 with 48,000 on it and it was cherry inside and out, Now 5 years later a guy backed into my quarter panel, had it fixed but never quite the same. A women pushed a cart into the fender with her car when I was in a store. Been bumped from behind because a mexican had no brakes. And dead road bugs have takin their toll on the noise eating into the clear coat and color coat.

If anybody ever does something to your baby, run over there and hit them regardless if they sue you because from that day on your car will never be the same.

Want splash?
NUMBER ONE
KEEP THOSE RIMS!
One day they will be quite valuable! (Think old Chevy Ralley Wheels & Want to buy a set of old Chevy Ralleys 15 x 7? Fresh repaint & clear coat)
Know what I did?
I scored a set of the WS-6 center caps.
They are soft silver.
They now look so nice instead of the black center cap.
NEXT is expensive
Media blast the wheels, powderpaint clear coat/dark inserts-dark-light grey not black.
That's what I'm gonna do.
I have access to media blaster, that's a help.
Glad ya thought about it.
The stock style in a few more days is going to be so desired compared to hacked up add ons.
Think old 1970's Camaros for what was once a not desired ride.
Now you see a nice stock 1970's F Body anymore?
