I have a pretty good background in working on GM cars and truck, and a few others:

1974 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4X4 (farm truck). Converted it to dual rear wheels, converted from automatic to manual transmission/transfer case with the granny gear, Took out the 350 Chevy and put in an Oldsmobile 455.

I have two 1984 15th Anniversary TAs that I am going to make one good car out of. I have collected all the parts, but that is a future project.

1982 Toyota SR5 longbed. I took the 22R engine out and put in a 350 small block. I used a 700-R4 out of an 88 GTA, and I got the rear end out of a 1976 TA. That was fun, but has been wrecked now.

1992 Pontiac Firebird 3.1 liter with Nitrous. Have also put in a 9 bolt Borg Warner posi disc brake rear with a 3.27 gear I used poly bushings throughout, and have put a lot of miles on it.

1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 4spd. Factory 4 speed car which now has a 428 engine, bored out and with a 455 crank. It has 462 cubic inches. I am 99.5% done with it. Just needs some brake work, the exhaust, and have the paint buffed for this car to be fully restored both inside and out.

1985 Dodge Shelby Charger. My friend has one of these, and I helped him convert it to Turbo II. I machined and or fabricated several pieces for this car. He ran an 8.785 in the 1/8th with it.

1955 GMC pickup truck. Have worked on it in the past. Was my brothers, but was wrecked. Have been working on restoring it (again) for a while now. We are using the front suspension out of a 1974 TA this time. F-bodies rule!

1934 Ford Street Rod. Black with flames, no top, no fenders, doors welded in. Weighs about 2500 pounds Max, probably about 375 HP with the built 350 in it. Really fast, really scary!

There are others, but these are the ones I thought you guys might be interested in. I have a pretty good range and type of vehicles that I have worked on, and just in case anyone doesn't believe me, i either have, or could easily get pictures to prove that the mods listed above actually have been done. Have a good day, Y'all!

Only F-bodies. My 1987 Camaro was my first car (got it August of 2001). Was never really interested in working on cars before that, although I had some exposure since my Dad is a mechanic. My 1989 Camaro RS is my second (bought it in June 2002). Keepin' 'em both running and I love them. Also work with my friend on his Firebird quite a bit.

You might want to look up a Ford car with the same engine in it. The Mazda suv I worked on is the same as a Ford Explorer. Parts are the same, engines are the same, wires are the same, bolts are the same, etc. 'Fact, a few of the parts stores couldn't find listings for the suv... so I told them to look under Ford Explorer, of the same year, with the same engine/drivetrain. You can use online parts places like napaonline.com and partsamerica.com to find parts #s, then either order online, or take the part #s to your local auto store.

Impressive list, pontiacguy1! I haven't done nearly anything as fun to the cars I've worked on (mine excepted).

Ive worked on many for other people.
But as for my own:
1974 NOVA SS may it rest in peace ( It didnt drive very good on its roof , another reason not to drink and drive).

1985 Nissan pick up (top end rebuild)

1970 Dodge pick up with a 360 (restored)

1983 Honda shadow 750 (modded)

1997 Lumina w/3.1 (biggest piece of crap I've ever owned , numerous repairs within 65k miles , ranging from daytime running lights to intake gaskets over $1000 in repairs . Traded in for a new 2002 Nissan Frontier.)

1989 2.8 Firebird ( replaced Heater core , Egr valve and vacuum switch , Tune up and vacuum line replacements , Sound system. So far So good. )

Oh I cant forget the race boat .
Jersey Speed Skiff with a heavily modded 350 chevy.

I'm a Toyota mechanic, So I work on TONS of cars all day long.

Working for Toyota right now.

Worked for Ford for about 5 years.

Worked on almost every car ( Dodge, they suck, Fords, they suck, Mazda, sucks!, GM, are OK!, but to work on and maintain,
Toyota is the BEST!!!!

Cars I keep up on a daily basis ( Because they're my Family's

137,000 miles

1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme ( also easy to work on) 36,000 miles

1991 Camaro RS ( My car, OK to work on, Alignments suck to do if your tie rod end sleeves are FROZEN!!!!! lol ) 75,000 miles

1995 Ford Taurus 3.0L ( NEVER buy the 3.8L!!!)
My other car, easy to work on as well ( only 30,000 miles on it!)

1987 Chevy Celebrity ( easy to work on ) 98,000 miles

Built a Cobra Kit car from welding the frame rails on the cement floor, with a 390 Ford & 4 speed.
Fun model to build.
Old Ford Mustangs & Broncos

Old family owned Corvettes-1954, 1961's (3 of them) 1966, 1974, and my current owned 1974 Corvette
My 1967 RS/SS Camaro 4-Speed 350 Convertible
Wifes 1968 Camaro 6 cylinder powerglide, console
The two cars below.
My 1972 Honda CB 175 with a CB200 engine & the matching disc brake front fork conversion.

I love the 1969 Firebird choice ride-I had a 1968 400/TH400.
What else worked on?
To much, now just my own stuff.
You couldn't pay me enough to fix another person car problems now.
Keep asking for the matching Ford car engine parts.
Need cylinder head work done already?

You guys are pretty well rounded, automotive wise. Thanks for the compliments. I like communicating with people like y'all, because you are down to earth. I have a lot of cars, and do a lot of service, but a lot of people with the V-8 cars think that if you don't have a 350, or aren't putting out at least 300 HP, then you aren't worth anything. I hope you found your parts Confucius101. I once installed a complete system into a Mazda B2200 truck, and all of the wiring harnesses had white tape around the looms at about 4 inch intervals. On that tape about every inch were Ford blue ovals! The big three own most of the Japanese car companies now, and half of the European ones, too.

Karl, cool, a cobra kit? That's awesome; I can't wait until I have my own house and my own garage. Like I tell the fiance', I don't much care about what house she likes, as long as the garage meets my favor (dual bay- uh, I mean, two car garage , flat concrete driveway). I keep meaning to buy that Rat Fink shirt; oh what's it say... something like "you have the house, the garage is mine!" Californiacarcovercompany sells it.

Glad I'm not the only one that gets that attitude. What's funny is, I know more about those guys' 350 f-bodies than they ever will. For instance, my reply when a V8 f-body owner asks me "why don't you just (just, ugh) swap a v8 in?"

Originally posted by TomP ( a few months ago)
The way I win, is knowing more about engine/trans/drivetrain/body then they could ever dream about. My favorite is "why don't you just put a V8 in?" (Just?? Ha!)

So I laugh, say "do you know what's involved with that?" They usually stammer out a response, like "engine mounts"? Ha. So I come back with "first, transmission won't fit, I need another one. Second, radiator's too small, I'd need a V8 one. The springs won't support a v8 well enough for the suspension to work at it's best. I'd need a new alternator, and all the brackets to hang the power steering & alternator on. I'd also need to change the manifolds and y-pipe before the cat. I'd also have to swap the entire engine wiring harness out. Ever take a wiring harness out?" "Uh, no" "I have. You should try it one day, it's a bitch. I'd also swap the computer. I wouldn't screw around with a carb, I'd want to put a full TPI injection system on it. Know anything about fuel injection?" "Sort of." "Well I'd also have to upgrade the fuel pump. The V6 pump's flow rate isn't high enough to support a v8's injectors. Ever change a fuel pump in a Firebird?" "Uh, no" "I have, twice. You have to remove (exaggeration) the rear axle and exhaust to be able to drop the tank." "Oh." "I wouldn't put a V6 in this car, it's not worth it. I'll buy a complete V8 car, and fix that one up. Besides, (my special case), my frame won't be able to take it after all the framework I've had done. The car would twist up like a pretzel."

It's pretty fun. They think they're insulting you, but suddenly, they realize they don't know sht from shinola about "just" swapping a v8 into an f-body. It's even better when their friends are watching this!
Can you tell I've been scarred for life?

I like my V6 because it keeps me out of trouble. I'm an adrenaline junkie. I ve raced methanol burning go-karts (WKA) ,Quads, dirt bikes and power boats competatively. I keep my racing on a closed course.
I know if I had a V8 firebird I would mod it heavily and the temptation of using the power would be too much. My V6 has enough power to get away at a stoplight but not too much to get me in trouble.
I guess Ill have to wait till I'm 60 like my father , he just bought a Harley -Davidson Ford f-150 with the 340 hp supercharged 5.4.
He had the same problem as me . I think he's finally calmed down. :sillylol:

Yeah, I agree on that!!!!

That's why I'm debating to do this expensive and long V8/trans.
swap in my V6 Camaro RS. I think I should just keep it the way it is, leave that $10,000 loan out of my hair, and just maintain what I have. I'll tell you right now, If I bought a 1990-1992 ( my favorite year 3rd-gen. F-body) with a 350 TPI, I would heavily "mod" it out too! I would replace the entire exhaust, headers all the way back to the tips! Add ram air kit, peformance chip, 180* T-stat, fan switch, shift kit, torque converter, 3.73 gears, etc!!!!!!!! So, maybe in the future, I'll purchase a Muscle car of some kind, because right now, I don't really have the money to buy what I really want! About that Harley Davidson F-150... that's the ONLY Ford worth buying these days!!!! For performance anyway! I used to work for Ford, they mostly sucked to work on, a TON of recalls!!!!!!

After my old friend & I built the kit car, he gave me a ride.
IT was like a UNBELIEVABLY FAST GO KART!!!
Really a great power to weight ratio.
Then I drove it.
IT was very "unrefined", but all there.
Then I got back into my 125,000 original miles 1974 Corvette with rebuilt suspension (new coil springs, new rear leaf spring, new bushings, I mean everything).
I never drove that Cobra again.
It was a very fun model kit to build.
And we really did it from the pile of loose square boxed tubes to laying down body to frame, wiring...
You draw the "frame on the cement ground, match chalk line for metal and weld away".

I'd rather the kit would have been a Corvette Gran Sport Replica! FHC (fastback style), please!
