Scan Tools
I was lookin' over on the ECM forum and I didn't have much luck researching what I needed to find out. I've been thinkin' about getting a scan tool for my car. Or perhaps some sort of laptop setup type thing. I was wondering if any of you guys have played with these devices? I'm totally clueless on this. I started looking into it once before, but that ended when the cash was low. The only thing I bookmarked was a device called AutoTap and that is for an OBDII car, and if I'm correct, I believe our cars are OBD1?
The AutoTap device I believe ties into a computer, which is a possibility becuase I do have a laptop computer that I could use for this. So really any thoughts are appreciated on this matter! Thanks in advance!

Not excatly sure what your looking for, just an advanced code reader or something to program with. Well I have used an advanced code reader.
I have used one from Snap-on. It has its own LCD screen and several chips to allow you to look at all GM, Fords, Dodges etc.
I used it on my 87 Oldsmobile 2.8.
The price is high. But it is amazing to what it shows.
It will bring up problems that your SES light does not come on for. There a great tool. I have no idea what the model # is or anything all I know is there abig investment. It will set you back about 2500-3000.
If you can get your hands on a snap-on catalogue there are a few to chose from.

Thanks for the advice, but that's quite a big investment to only be using it on one car... now if I were into having multiple cars with mods and such, perhaps then I would make such an investment... I'm looking for something hopefully under $200 that would do similar things...
