Trying not to panic, engine overheated and...

This'll be brutal and quick.
I'm taking the Corvette to see THE WHO tonight and that's not the panic (I get parked boxed in, no Corvette theft worry!)

Got AC charged.
Went my trips around cooler West LA/Beach side.
All OK
AC on, I feel great!
Drive over the Sepulveda Pass to the San Fernando Valley.
Make it home, all ok, pick up good, running fine.

I make it to driveway
Pop hood to check, low & behold the overflo tank is a bubbling.
Go inside, turn on the heater to cool down engine and car cools down after a few moments.

I open rad.
I see low water, and high tank level.
I fell rad with 50/50, go for ride.
Feels good, get it towards home and it goes up, slightly.
I make it home and shut it down.

Go to restart it.

Click
Click

Use battery charger to kick help

URH URH URH STOP.
You know that sound.

Eventually I check rad again.
Low level, not much.
NO fluid leaks

Try again.. URH URH

Wait for it to cool.
Install known working starter....

Same sounds.
Only turns over with battery charger.
Pull plugs

No water, powerdy white (using Bosch Plat.).
I shower, install the T-Tops on the Corvette
and type this.
I hoping when I get back

The car will have cooled down enough to turn over easier

I may have a few more clues....

Will know in the end...

Man...I don't need another project!!
Downhill on my 3.4 truck swap (only engine to go. Then final wiring/fuel details, already tranny in).

Thanks!!!

THE WHO PERFORMED A VERY EXCEPTIONAL CONCERT!
Every LA TV news channel and entertainment reporter were there. I almost made it on the evening news, but they cut the feed as I worked into the after concert crowd.
The evenings performance had it's ups and sadness.
BUT PETE PLAYED INCREDIBLE!
Roger looks GREAT for being like close to 60!
The happiness I saw in their two years ago prior performance, same place, was gone.

After the show, the G0ds of Rock and Roll did shine.
Besides the BEAUTIFUL drive home on Mulholland, over looking the San Fernando Valley and LA, Corvette T-top off, warm summer night....

I get home and open the Firebird door.
Low lite level....
WHhoommmmm
Next AM, I slip in the other battery.
Turns right over & then starts.....
BUT doesn't idle, but revs strong but......
WHOOOMMmmmmmmm
Off comes the alternator......
On goes the new rebuilt one.....
Starts up right away and idles smooth as my Son's butt!
Check water in battery.
LOW LOW
In fresh H20
Charging slow charge for an hour.
Then test again......
I do not like charging batteries in cars, after dead, with the alternator.
Why strain the system...

PS
Saw THREE PEOPLE PULLED OVER ON SIDE STREETS BY CYCLE COPS!!
They are watching for us doing stupid things!
Be aware.

LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!!
Thank you, John Entwistle & Keith Moon

Next is driving around & for checking water boiling problems.

I kinda consider me stupid for not catching the "tips"
BUT
SO far,
NO test drive yet but, shortly.
Just curious about the rad, overheating and such!
Never realized our MPFI cars wouldn't start with a weak alternator or not idle properly with a weak alternator.
MAYBE I don't need that new cap & rotor yet!!

I never knew that switching to a newer alternator would bring so much spunk back into my ride.
I need a new/rebuilt MAS, tho.
The extra engine heat did it in.
I get a free swap, no big deal.
Have to isolate that modified air inlet MAS junction better from the upper rad hose.
Foam rubber don't cut it!
The over heating problem seems to be solved, too.
SO MUCH FUN TO STAND AND WATCH A HOT MOTOR AND WAIT FOR FAN TO COME ON!
96* when I did my testing.
Atleast I found shade to observe cooling system operations.
Elevario informed me he had same symptoms.
No fan, weak motor, overheating....
Yep, alternator.
I almost swapped on my 1995 alternator I got with the 3.4 motor I just purchased.
The main power junction wire feed is a different male connect and female plug.
Why hassle?
I got my proper alternator with a life time warranty.
Lasted over 18 months.
With abuse I gave it, did fine.
I ended up stranded me in my own driveway!! Couldn't be happier.
Next new battery.
