OF COURSE YOU CAN BUY A CAMARO OR FIREBIRD
I applaud your decision.
NOW...
How much ya gonna spend
Your budget to rebuild/fix this old car (which is close to 20 years now)
Who elses car will you drive as the 3rd gen f body is being rebuilt/repaired.....hey, reality......

I know of a BEAUTY 4th gen
White
Top Tops
Polished wheels
stock
3.8 V-6, loaded, original, super clean.....
$7K
In LA area.
Hell want a Sunfire convertible? Low cost & reliable, the guy drives it every other day (he has about 15 cars!)....
SUMMER, CONVERTIBLES AND CALIFORNIA WOMEN.........
the legends live on!!

Go buy something that works right from the start.
A WISE DECISION. Spend money on FUN & WOMEN instead of repair bills.
I got my F body, BARELY ALIVE for $300 & have rebuilt ALOT mechanical on the car.
A suggestion....cause
I'VE BEEN THERE.
Some days I'd enjoy being 17 again, only back when I was 17, not today!
Have fun while ya can......

insuraunce wise, for as old as our cars are, i should point out that, price for insurance is the same whether you have a v6 or a v8, just thought i'd point that out.

If you plan on not haveing to pay repair work, then look somewhere else. The newest thirdgen is reaching its tenth birthday and the oldest is almost twety years old.

You will have to face reality, stuff breaks after time, YOU WILL HAVE TO FIX THINGS. If you can handle that, then Power to you bro!

I have my car under my step dads name, actually, and only pay $120 every six months cuase he has a spotless record cuase he has never got CAUGHT doing anything wrong and he's as old as karl over here.

man karl, i wish I WERE YOU when you were 17, cuase then i'd be driven a Vette can't go without typing that

Dang stuart! Where do you live?! I'm gonna move over there! Seriously, a v8 car in tucson cost quite a bit more than the 6. RIght now, I pay 80 dollars a month (Used to be 120) for liability only. When I was gonna buy a 92 z28 instead, they quoted me 190 dollars liability! I asked about full coverage just to check it out, and they were gonna charge me 270 dollars a month for my little six cylinder car or 405 dollars a month for the Z28! My record is spotless, not even a ticket! I couldn't put the car under my parents name insurance like ALL of my friends do. My parents said it's against the law? I said to them, I want to be a part time driver on my parents minivan and my dad will take the camaro. But the insurance wouldn't do it and neither would my parents. Be prepared for insurance especially if you want some sort of coverage. You don't want to be paying insurance as high as a car payment!

I'm paying $70/mo for liability only. Down from $74 last year, even after a speeding ticket.

Go find the Corvette NOW to purchase.
A test drive won't hurt!
I don't recall what I pay.
I do know to register it, $39 a year in CA.
When ever you have a loan on a car, the insurance price sure goes up, too.
Many states are way less expensive to insure in then some high accident states.
CA & NJ being some that come to mind.

*laughs*

Get a price for a GTA and a price for your V-6, and scan them to prove it to me. There is a Big difference. They tell you that till you buy the V-8 car. Then Bang your insurance is up $40 a month.

As far as insurance goes it varies. I pay 1050 every 6 months PL, PD and comprehensive. (canadian Funds)

Either way your car will cost and parts will not be the burden; its the price of insurance for a young male driver.

I have my full coverage the highest you can get it for everything. uninshured and underinsured, towing, medical expense , bodily injury and property damage liability, all at $300,000 each occurance (except medical and towing). also it what I am paying is for primary car (because it is newer than my winter car)

Last year 3rd gen cars are gonna be worth bucks.
More original the better.
IF the V-6 has a better body, grab it.
Owner took care of it, right?
OR
Make sure they're not hiding something!
I like the Shop Manual pic.
Nice touch.
Everyone should have that type of shop manual for their ride.
It's pricey, but worth it after first hard problem solved easy by that reference.
I was lucky and scored my shop manual for $40
I need an owners manual
Who can supply Helms website?

Get the VIN before you buy it and check the Vehicle history . I think there is a cost . BUT , its worth it . I did not do it , because I dont thik they had this around when I bought my car . But I had a friend do it for me last year for free on my car and my car came up with a clean history .

I got tired of reading...so I skipped a lot.

V6-V8 Doesn't matter on insurance

Z28-RS DOES matter.

GTA/TA/Formula-Firebird DOES matter

Get a 305 TBI RS or base bird and then spend the time and money to convert it to TPI. I hate to say it, but eventually after owning the 6, you will have a desire to switch to something for more power, and it's actually cheaper to start with a V8 than to convert. You CAN mod the V6, but even after extensive mods, dont expect lower than high 13's on spray or boosted.

I feel like such a "hata" tonight...but in all honesty guys I'm just "keepin it real"

Sorry butt in 91 and 92 they went to a 3.1 not a 2.8 Also there is no way of telling a V6 from a V8 RS . If you look and listen to mine you will swear its a V8. And I have a 91 RS 3.1L . V6's can have dual exhaust. The 3.1 is just a stroked 2.8. But you are wright they only changed the body a little bit in 91 and 92 different ground effects basically. And nose I pay like 130 a month for full coverage. I m 29 and my record only has one ticket on it.

Your taillights are different than a v8 RS.

there is a big difference between our V6s, and a 350 V8.

So they're not the stock taillights then!

shaun_bayarea, why not just call your local insurance companies and see how much it'll cost? They won't bite.

yeah, the grill is model specific, not engine specific....I'
m still trying to find some exterior difference between the V6 cars and the V8s (in the same model line, Sport Coupe or RS)...so far nothing...

I think the older like 89 model RS didn't get the grid style. I think all of them got the grid style in 90-92.

CA??? your lucky you dont live in NJ then you would be paying high insurance, im a chick and for full coverage i was paying 1200 a year when i first got the damn car so now i had to switch to plain liability ins. its about 100 bucks every 2 mos and im a tier 1 driver (amazingly). HMM talk about annoying taillights...all 86's have that stupid 3rd one which i keep getting pulled over when a few of the lights burn out. Makes ya wanna kick the freaking thing off sometimes

New Jersey Cops have NOTHING BETTER TO DO LATELY THAN PULL PEOPLE OVER FOR LACK OF OPERATING THIRD BRAKE LIGHT?
Send them to LA.
I hear there's a few openings at the Inglewood Police Department.
That guy is such a jerk.

Karl, I'll do ya one better. I got a ticket for having (and yes, it was written this way on the ticket) "1/2 of third brake light out".

When I paid the ticket, I told them "I lost the original" just so I could keep it. That's got to be the most outrageous reason I've been pulled over yet- and I got a ticket for it!!

Pissed me off, too... I was hungry late one night, and remembered about the Taco Bell's being "open late"- so I drove way out of my way to the (back then) only taco bell around here. 'Course, they were closed. So not only was I hungry, I was mad. And then I got this ticket on the way home.

I hear there's a few openings at the Inglewood Police Department.
That guy is such a jerk.
WOW Karl! I saw that footage on t.v and it's crazy! I can't believe that cop (After cuffing him) picked the guy up and slammed him on the car, then PUNCHED him! Sure, I don't know what happened before that, but I don't thnk any cop should be able to beat you up AFTER they cuff you! Maybe when you're not cuffed and are a big threat to them! But after, sheesh. Oh, my car's up and running again. Now, I am almost completely broke. Almost don't have enough for gas, but I'll manage!
All these dumb tickets you guys are talking about and it makes me mad! It reminds me of my only ticket! When I was taking a right turn into rush hour traffic, and my TIRE (peg-leg) chirped when I took off into it. I had to go to traffic school to get it taken off! 95 dollars it costed! And, RedZ28chik, you got it good on insurance! I would give an arm and both my legs to get full coverage on my car for 1200 dollars a year! Full coverage for me cost 270 dollars a month!

Traffic school, out here, starts at $300.
I make the instructor pay for having the privlidge of my body in their class for 8 hours.
I tell the class the thruth about
Speed limits & danger
Turning and intersections.
I used to have the same seat in the Marina Del Rey traffic school (taught in the park by the Pacific Ocean) for many years.
Eric, Glad to hear you're up and running.
I know it hurt$, but WAY less painful then replacing yourself.
Any problems you give a shout.
Jersey cops really that lame...
especially after that incident in NYC & DC.
Chrome chain around the plate is bad?
In whose lifetime?
Boy this is really sad to hear.....
But then again, I have had several run ins with the Ewing Township Barney Fifes.......
Yeah, that cop is a real jerk.
NICE TO HEAR, it's not against all Inglewood cops.
Really just him.
Couldn't ask to have a more bad hand dealt to him.
Stupid Pig comes to mind once again.
Seen them before TOO TOO many times in my life (Protesting is FUN!).
No stomach for his actions, tho. He is one sad excuse for a human.

jersey cops are that bad, and its been long before sept 11th. i live in hunterdon county where not much happens here. haha and as soon as the end of the month rolls around they are all out like hungry dogs ready to write stupid tickets so they can collect their browney points.my most recent ticket really got me fuming... it was 3 am a few mos ago and i was on a back road..there was a stop sign at a blind turn so in order to avoid the people that speed down that road you HAVE to pull up a little past that stop sign to look and see if the coast is clear. I did that as i normally do and next thing i see is cop lights. that pissed me off to no end.

I have a 92 RS V6 and under my mom's insurance (Allstate) I pay about 150 bux with a good student discount and a drivers ed discount. I'd say get the v6 cuz it can run good and the LO3 V8 isn't that much more powerful to be forkin over say 50 bux more a month. It only has 30 hp over our little v6's, and gas gets you too. Hey do what you have to do, I like goin v6, its fun bein different.

i live in jersey...been pulled over 10, yes 10 times, anf i have been driving for 9 months!

here are some reasons
- Loud Exhaust (even tho i have cat and muffler)
- Windshield banner (limit is 6" from the time, mine is 3.5")
- going 4, yes 4 mph over the speed limit (no ticket, i had my NJ drivers manual to get me out of that)
- not having my blinker on for long enough before a turn
- one time i had a bottle of IBC root-beer (brown bottle looks like a 40) i got pulled over for underage drinking, and then he saw it was rootbeer)

and thats only half the reasons, i have been pulled over 6 times by the same cop.

but what are ya gonna do? no tickets, im happy, one cop liked my car

also been pulled over before for the exhaust when the seal connecting my engine to the pipes broke, got a ticket for the firebird banner tint thing so i had to take it off, then i was searched and frisked by 2 state cops in front of the flemington shoprite becuase i went 20mph across the parking lot when the non posted speedlimit was 15, then they accused me of smelling like pot which i hadnt done for years, lol and Clinton cops are WORSE i got pulled over in my blazer for having the front tires stick out a teeny bit in the front..said next time id get a ticket
