rocker arms or dount around exhaust manifold? or just trade it in
Ok guys help, I have a 86 V6 Camaro, I just put an engine in, It's 52,000 miles on it, I have the title with the odometer reading on it in my hand as I type this. I have some mods, Dynomax catback exhaust, KN Filters, Pioneer CD Deck, Foglights. I have a ticking noise coming from under my hood when I am idiling, When I drive u don't even hear it, It's not loud to begin with. There is a donut thats supposed to be at my exhaust manifold but none is there, Could this cause the ticking??? My uncle said so, But my other buddy A.J. said my rocker arms need to be tightened (torqued). But I also have a chance to get an 92 RS 3.1 with 69,400 original miles on it, What should I do?? And is this the problem???
Help me! I have about 3000 bucks invested in my 86 Camaro and I love it!

you sure its not a leaky coil, my accell coil cause me all kinds of greif and money. I too noticed the ticking but not untill I was doing some late nite working did I notice the blue light leaking out.
check it out in the dark. it sounds just like a right rear rocker ticking. buts its not.

Sometimes it can be a leaky manifold or that dounut.
One night traveling to my G/F's house at 145 km/h my car developed a tick. My tick is loud enough to hear at idle, but when driving I do not hear it either. Its got to be a lose lifter. All I know is I have put 20,000 km on it since with no trouble, so the tick should bring no worries. My mothers 96 Grand prix has a tick to, and it has no engine trouble.

yea my car runs great, it's just that ticking noise, u don't hear a thing when your driving, my friend said that it's a rocker arm that needs to be torqued (tightened). But my dad and uncle said it's that donut or my Exhaust manifold all together

Here's an idea... we all know that the donut should be there. So, get one from a junkyard, then put it on.
After that, then you could look for things to fix. That's like me asking why my car doesn't move forward- oh, and by the way, the right tire is missing. Just playin' with ya, but you know what I mean... replace the missing stuff; it's there for a reason!

my ticking went way after the dealer i bought it from redrilled my passenger side manifold bolys that were snapped. that lasted all of a year and now i hear that d**n ticking again. but TomP is right, replace what i missing first....then after that i think you've got it boiled down to the two most likely culprits....if its not your ignition coil....that would be 3
