switch the guts from 1 tranny 2 another??
heres my ? i hope i can explain my idea here
i think iam loseing 3rd gear or its slipping really bad
the tranny i have now is a 30 spline i have another tranny (700R4) thats 28 or 26 whatever the other one is. i know its a 84
can i pull the inside of the tranny on the 84 and put it in mine and just change the input shaft???
i have a higher stall on my tranny but its for 30 spline and i dont want to buy another TC (no money) and mine also has a shift kit in it
if so how hard would it be and what all would have to come off the tranny (pan, valve body, etc.) i have very very little exper. in trannys but want to learn any help guys.

It would work to switch out inputs, the pump will need to be changed also. The only problem is the third and fourth clutch is inside the input drum, so if yours is slipping you wouldn't want to put it in another trans. Sure you could swap out all the internals of the input drum too but I can't see any sense in reinstalling old seals and clutches into an old trans thats probably full of debris from the worn clutches anyway. You'll save time, money and frustration in the long run to just rebuild it, have it rebuilt or get a known good trans to put in the car.

There is a slim chance that whatever you plan on doing with these two transmissions without buying new parts is going to result in a reliable transmission that fuctions properly for any length of time.
Now to try and figure out what you are asking this time (sounds like the same question). ONE 30 spline inputs use a pump with a different sized hole in the stator support (the hole in the center that the input shaft comes through). TWO There are two different pumps that use the 30 spline input, One up to '86 that didn't use an auxillary valve body (or forward accumulator) and '87 and up that uses an aux valve body.
Now I see you own an '86 and '88 and don't know what trans you are wanting to swap parts with the '84 transmission.
There may be hope though because '84 1/2 700R4's use a 30 spline input as well. So if you have one of these you are better off to just swap out the whole trans.
If you find you have a 27 spline input on yours and want to put the '88's input and pump in it you can forget that.
You can put the '86 input and pump into the '84 but like I said before, the input housing has a lot of parts in it, like the 3-4 clutch, It makes no sense to take an input out of a trans with a slipping third gear and put it into a good trans and expect it to work--it's going to have the same problem. It also makes no sense to take all the parts out of the '84 input and put them into the '86 input ,even though they would interchange, because the seals should not be reused.
You are much better off getting a cheap rebuild than trying to swap parts and reusing everything. If you take a trans apart you need to expect to have to buy some new parts.
You could get what is called a banner kit which has all the gaskets, seals, sealing rings, and clutch plates (no steels) for under $200. JC Whitney for one has a complete rebuild kit for $105 (up to '86) and $140 ('87 to '92). Even if this is the lowest quality kit made I guarantee it'll give better results than just swapping used parts. They also have what they call a "heavy duty-high performance transmission rebuild kit", I bought one of these and it has Alto red clutches and a trans go 2&3 shift kit, it's high quality and goes for $170 ('82 to '86) and $190 ('87 to '92).
