6 speed in a 3rd gen?
Hi everyone,
I am thinking of putting a 6 speed in my z28. It is an automatic right now. Besides getting the clutch pedal, slave cylnder and lines what should be done??
Thank you.
I have a few basic ideas about the conversion but any further insight would be great,
thanks

IF you get a 6 speed from a 93-97 F-Body, you can re use your torque arm and driveshaft, since its the same length as the T5 or 700R4. The aftermarket 6 speeds made by companies like richmond are about 2" longer than the factory ones, so you would have to have the torque arm and driveshaft shortened.
You will however need a new cross member though. If you are good with welding and such, you could make your own, or you could buy the one already made from http://www.skulte.com/
There is also a great tech article on the conversion on that site.
Also, I am not ABSOLUTELY sure, but I think you have to extend the shifter hole a couple inches back.
Oh yea, almost forgot: the 93 6 speed is only rated at 400 ft-lbs and has liek a .67 overdrive, while the 94-97 is rated at 450 ft-lbs and has a .5 overdrive. I would look for a 94-97.
