what's the pros and cons of using a solid crush sleeve eliminator

I've set up lots and lots of rear axles, but have never used a solid crush sleeve eliminator. What's the point of this? I honestly don't see how the bearing preload would be within specs, unless a 'normal' crush sleeve is used...

89Roc, the point is that the solid spacer won't deflect any once pinion preload is set. This can't be said about a conventional crush collar. You can achieve proper pinion bearing preload because you get one really thick spacer and then an assortment of thinner shims. During assembley you add the thinner shims to the thicker spacer until you reach the desired pinion bearing preload.

The way it works, is that it comes with a bunch of shims; you select a shim pack with it to produce the correct bearing preload. Then you can tighten the nut as tight as you like, without wasting the bearing. The main benefit is that the solid spacer doesn't continue to crush each time it gets shocked, so the nut doesn't have an automatic guarantee of eventually backing off.

howdy fellas,

now i know that this post is old, but i am having a hell of a time finding a crush sleeve eliminator. the parts stores and speed shops dont know what i am talking about. where do you guys get these things. i did a search and in another post RB83L69 said that Ratech makes them and the part number is #4111.

i dont think i have heard of Ratech, the name doesnt really seem to ring a bell, so i was wondering where to order this thing? where do you lads buy these things? can regular auto parts stores get these things?

i live in southwestern Ontario and would perfer not to have to order stuff from the US.

thanks for all the help guys.
