Jumping!! Clunking!!...need help with my 700R4!
Hey there...well what my problem is is that whenever i put my T/A into intial load, the wheels hop a bit and sometimes it makes like a clunking noise...it also does this when i shift back from reverse to OD...i have changed out u-joints and bushings and still not much of a difference...well if anyone else has had this problem i would appreciate some feedback!...i just hope i don't have to rebuild...kind of time anyways tho...haas 135,000 on it already....just put in a rebuilt 350 tho!!...well thanks again guys...

Does it engage really harsh, is that what your saying? A rough engagment is usually caused by a high pressure cituation, or too high of an idle. Could just mean that your pressure regulator valve is sticking a bit, which would lead to thinking your tranny is making metal. I've also had a problem with a camaro clunking when going into gear and it turned out the crossmember bolts had stripped out, so check and make sure all your bolts are tight on your crossmember.

it is your trans mount, check the tech files on replacing the trans mount.. i've done mine a few times when it was doing exactly what you are describing, that noise is actually the transmission hitting the underside of the car.

hey guys...well before i posted the original note i had replaced most bushings ( including the trans mount w/ a poly one) and still not much of a difference...but i noticed my "extension housing seal" was leaking around the drive shaft so now my question is has anyone evr replaced the bushing back in there?...it is fairly cheap and the last real reason for the clunking...i wasn't sure if there is a way to unbolt the extension housing to replace the seal and bushing in there....well post back guys...i appreciate the help..

Oh man, I had this same problem, I did everything you did also.
Turns out all I had to do was open up the rearend to find my problem. Has this been going on for a while? Because I rode around like that for about 3 mos.
I'll try to get a pic today of what I saw.

Well I have to get a new posi unit, but the rest of the stuff is fine.
My only problem is that I dont know if want to attempt to rebuild a rearend, you need job specific tools, just seems a little complicated for me. So I'll probanly just get used whole rearend and put that in.
Let me remind you, this may not be your problem, to see if it is dosent take that long. If it isnt the problem then thats one more thing to check off your list. And if the rear is cool, then all you will do is put new fluid in the rear, which needs to be done every now and then anyways.
Let me go get a pic.
Rick
Does that rhyme? Hmm

Also the spyder gears in the diff, the teeth are all ate up,
Not Good.
When I was draining the fluid, chunks of metal were pouring out with the fluid. That was first indication of a problem.
Thats my hosed rearend.

k...one check your fluid level....two...make sure your tv cable is adjusted, if its not adjusted correctly...it can attribute to higher mainline pressure which would cause a harsh "driveway" shift. Or...before you do any of that crapp.....trans mount, torque arm mount....

If yours is a 1982-1986 700R4, then the neutral to drive engagement can be harsh. Make sure the idle speed is set correctly. The 1987 & later units had a forward accumulator that softened the engagement somewhat.

Woah dudes!!!!
This is a probleM?
I thought this was normal in all F-bodies!
Ive been driving like this for 6 months now?
and ur now telling me its messed up?
I need some feed back... like yah when I put it in Reverse it will sorta jump just a bit up, but than when I put it in drive, it sorta lifts its self more kinda feeling.. haha I thought this was normal.
It does make a noise also, but??? And sometimes when I drive, I hear ggaarrrrrrr.... when its switching gears sometimes..
any ideas??
should I sell my baby?
cause I dunno how to fix this
