The th400 is stronger than the th350 or the 700r4. You only get a 1:1 ratio in 3rd on the th400 verses .70:1 for 4th on the 700r4. So high speed cruising you will be turning higher rpms than a 700r4.

have you thought about the torque arm at all? if you go after market and use a floor pan mounting location go with the th400 other wise i'd use the th350 and b&m pn30299 for the crossmember and torque arm.

You can see a picture of it on my web site. Check the page "Conversion to TH400." I have an explanation of it there also. Or you can go to the company web site at www.gearvendors.com. Check it out.

Car: 82 camaro SC
Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
Drive around in 3rd gear and see how you like it. Add a few hundred rpms to that since the th400 won't lock-up. A th400 is stronger, but at your power level a th350 would be a better alternative because the th400 sucks more power from the engine. A 700r4 could be built at a decent price to handle your the power of your engine without a problem and you would have overdrive. The gearvendors overdrive is really nice, but you pay for that 'nice' it a big way.
