Installing Zexel-Torsen
Hey all,
This has probably been covered before but I picked up a used 10 bolt with 3.42s in it for my IROC with 9-bolt and 2.77. Anyway, pulled the cover off the 10bolt today cuz i wanted to check it over before putting it in the car and i turned it over to drain the oil out and along with it some chunks fell out ANYHOW.....rather than mess around trying to rebuild that posi, I've read that the zexel-torsen is better so I ordered a takeoff from SLP. This rearend is out of an '85 IROC so I know that it's 26 spline and I've already got a friend picking me up a set of 28 splines for cheap. Now what do I have to do to install this Zexel-Torsen into the rearend? Will I have to completely set it up with my gears or just swap the ring gear over to the new posi and reuse the shims, etc that are in the current setup? All help is appreciated, thanks.

If you are reusing the gears (3.42) that are in the 10 bolt, you can get away with swapping over the ring gear to the zexel and installing that back into the rear with the shims in the same side and what not, torque, fill, and go.This is how I installed me zexel in my S10 1.5 years ago, still have had no problems with it.
