whats best for drag racing???

ok guys

as we all know i just picked up a 87 Z28 project car

this car is gonna be my street/strip car

what would be better for draggin.... a T56 or a beefed up 700R4????

reason i ask this is because.........i can do either or........

some guy at the pontiac dealer i work at is into hi-performance cars and he said he can rebuild the blown 700R4 into a beefed up unit for me for relativly cheap labor ($200)

or i can take a bay in the shop after hours and throw a T56 in myself

my goal is to have an 11 sec car when i am completely done.....(yes, i know that will not happen with the current 305....thats what a 383 is for.......)

lemme know your thoughts on what is better guys

its automatic

The automatic would be the way to go for the dragstrip. The T56 would be the way to go for all around coolness. So what's your priority...

well, a little bit of both......................like when i want a fast car to drive....then for the street

but i also want to take it to the track and run 11's

honestly i think i am leaning towards the 700R4...............

you will get better consistant launches with an auto w/ torque converter. the t56 would be alot better if you are gonna be driving this thing on the street at all. (not just to the drag strip)

I don't think the T56 would actually be any "better" than a well done 700R4, but the T56 would be many times cooler!

I am all for the t56 for the coolness factor as well. The auto though will help you hit consistent 11's if that is what your goal is. the t56 you could mess up the launch or miss shift...someting to think abou
