9 bolt rear worth $400 (can.)???
Like I said.It's a posi 3.45 rear, is it really that much stronger than a 10 bolt? How do they compare to a 12 bolt? I just blew the spyder gears out of the 10 bolt and thought why not just take the POS out.Good plan or not? Thanx for any input.

i have heard that they are alot stronger but part are so hard to find and really expensive. i bought a junker gta for the rear and it had a 9-bolt 3.27 disc posi in it so i looked for years and the cheapest i coudl find was 295 bucks for 3.73's. but wutever its worth it

So would this 9 bolt survive a manual valve body and possibly some hits from a trans brake?

Well, I dont know the exact definition of a locker but they are posi already. I dont know what kind of motor you have but 88 427 camaro runs a 427 with somewhere upward of 500 horse in front of his.

A mini spool goes inside of the carrier in place of the posi unit. It locks the axles together via a splined hub, hence there is no more differential action between the tires. A full spool also replaces the carrier, not just the posi. I have full spools available in 28 spline and 31 spline versions by special order only.
Personally I wouldn't drive a mini spool (or full spool) on the street, but some people do. If you decide to, you will need some aftermarket axles as the factory ones won't hold up.

Where would I find and how much would after market axles be?Do you have some?And going off topic here, would spyder gears out of any size 10 bolt work in the factory 10 bolt for a 84 trans am?

There are many aftermarket manufactures of axles. If you search the archives or post a message I'm sure will get many sources. Moser engineering would be my choice (295/pair).
My car sees a lot of street time between weekend races so I do not use a spool or mini spool and I am still running stock factory axles (in fact, my entire 9 bolt rear is factory stock). A spool is stronger than a differential unit and yes it causes the wheels to turn exactly the same.
