Ring and pinion

Can someone help with this pattern to tell me what I need to do this is an old set of gears

Axle/Gears: Borg Warner 3.70:1

Looks like your pinion is a little too deep into the ring gear. Try going a little thinner on the pinion shim. Problem with used gears though is that they have worn into a certain pattern and it's very hard to set them up again to match that old pattern and then they will make noise. My preference is to always replace the ring and pinion if I need to redo the setup.

But, something like this is what you should be targeting for a setup pattern, along with the correct backlash and preload measurements.

the thinner shim will move the gear closer to the center of the ring gear?

The thinner pinion shim will move the pinion away from the center of the ring gear.

I will have to sand this one down couple of thousands to get the pattern to move to center of ring gear correct

I would not sand down the shim. Get a shim pack and swap out the current one for a thinner one.
