Ebay trans coolers
Anyone use these coolers for your tranny fluid? Or maybe for your oil/water cooling needs. Feedback neg/pos appreciated. I know these are chiner made cheapo's, but my space is limited. I cant fit a "traditional" cooler up front. I have a pusher fan taking 90% of that space, but there's some room to the side. How bad could it be?

Re: Ebay trans coolers
I use an ebay 40k trucool in addition to the cooler in the radiator and the highest temp I have seen on a hot day after some highway ripping is 165*
3000 stall 4l80e turbo ls 650whp.
They work good IMO

Re: Ebay trans coolers
I have seen that style of tranny cooler sold since the '80s as a "street rod" transmission cooler-looks ill-suited to medium or heavy duty usage, not enough heat removal capacity...

Re: Ebay trans coolers
They sell different sizes. This one is 15", but I saw 8, 12, 18 and 24". 15" is about the tallest I could fit standing up since I'd like to place it up in front to one side of the condenser. I would also be still using the oe cooler in the radiator. I haven't really thought about laying it down, although that would allow a longer one used. Appreciate the replies. Thanks guys.

Re: Ebay trans coolers
I've had one like that on my GTA for several years. IIRC, mine is 24" long, and I have it mounted horizontally. Not sure of the brand, but I think it was DeRale(?). The chrome finish on that one would make me hesitate a little bit though.

I saw that too, but I think it just polished. It don't look anywhere chrome to me, but maybe it's just my eyes. How you like that cooler? You use it on your trans?
Also got these on the way. My originals are a bit kinked here and there.

Re: Ebay trans coolers
Too lazy to go back and check, but I thought it said it was chrome.
I attached mine to the underside of the bumper support. It's high enough to not hit on anything, but when the car is in motion the airflow goes right through it. Might not be the most efficient, but I already have an oil cooler in front of the radiator. (Ignore the paper towel by the radiator. This pic was taken right after I installed the coolers. I filled the oil cooler up before I installed it to reduce time without oil flowing on initial startup after the install).

Re: Ebay trans coolers
Thanks for the pic. That looks like it still gets good air flow thru the openings in the back of that plastic piece.
The description says "polished chrome", but also says "silver" for the color. Chrome seems like an expensive option for those coolers.

Re: Ebay trans coolers
It's on a '91 GTA, so aside from the air that gets around the fog lights & turn signals, not much are comes through those openings. But that is right where the air comes underneath the front bumper and rises up into the radiator, so air flows through the cooler when the car is moving.

Re: Ebay trans coolers
No, the power steering cooler is still the stock piece in the original place as seen in the photo. As far as tweaking, none really. I kept the stock tranny cooler inline. So what I did was take the stock exit location of the tranny line on the bottom of the radiator and attached an angled fitting to the radiator. Then the hose that came with the cooler was attached to route the fluid through the aftermarket cooler after the stock radiator. Hope that makes sense. Mounting was super simple. The cooler fits on that support perfectly.

Re: Ebay trans coolers
I thought FBs had the PS cooler line in the same place as camaros ( on the bottom of the radiator support). Thought maybe you re-routed yours.
Im guessing you didnt cut your stock trans cooler lines then. Something i dont wanna do since i just ordered new ones.
