Re: What caused this?

You posted about a click in April. And indicated pending rebuild.
Wear could come from the spider gears loading and unloading the axles, like launches, or donuts.
If you're deadset on keeping that carrier, new spider gears and axles is a good idea. If you are deadset on the 7.5, a gearbias diff. like a Torsen is nice for the street.

Too late, I already answered. How about using correct terminology when asking a question so that people might know what the hell you're talking about?...

Re: What caused this?

What you're looking at across the top of the splines is grooves left from the rough cut of machining the axle.

Re: What caused this?

Most likely it is from the Clutch Plates in the Carrier...
Or a Side-Gear.

Re: What caused this?

I recently had my posi rear rebuilt and my axles looked like that. I replaced the spider gears and carrier bearings and we didn't see any issue in the spline looking that way and put it all together with no issues.

Re: What caused this?

Thank you Vinnie R , TTOP350 and vorteciroc for actual answers instead of smartassiness which runs people off! I use voice to text to do my texting and it automatically put in transAXLE and I did not see it ...so I apologize to the "special" person who didn't understand what I meant! LOL Wasn't sure being that outer edge of the splines appear to have been eaten off.

I see, people are supposed to magically know that you use voice testing and that "transaxle" is supposed to mean rear axle. You are the one who is the smart-@$$ here.
I stated a FACT, which is that thirdgens don't have transaxles. I love it when people come here DEMANDING information and DEMANDING that we accept their inaccurate terminology...
