T56 swap

Hi i have for the moment a 1988 305 tpi engine which im gonna swap a t56 behind.
So my understanding is that this year of engine is a 1 piece rear seal so i can use a standard lt1 flywheel like the luk lfw282? Which shows up at rockauto when i chose a 1995 camaro.

Yes you have a 1 piece rear main seal. The flywheel you use will depend on the style of trans/clutch. I used a stock 87-92 flywheel and a ram clutch for a 82-92 car. My t56 is an LS style and I used a quick time bellhousing to mate the ls t56 to a sbc. There are other paths to make this work. Let us know what trans/bell you have.

Ah ok the tag on the transmission reads 1386-009
So that's a lt1 style 94-95 t56
No bellhousing on it yet i thought to buy the factory style bellhousing for it

Re: T56 swap

If you have a lt1 trans, get all lt1 stuff. Clutch, hydros and 4th gen pedals. You'll need a drive shaft and cross member. Your speedo will also a conversion box to work with your new trans sending unit I think. I used an aftermarket gauge cluster so I didn't have to deal w that. You'll need a torque arm hookup as well.

Re: T56 swap

I needed a new shaft but it may work you LT setup. I used a magnum f t56. It's a little different. Some other guys on this board have used LT drivetrains, I'm sure they will respond. The speedo situation is just going to require an adjustable pulse box to make it accurate. I'm sure some or the guys be digitally dashes will have info.

Re: T56 swap

The T56 you mention has tall gearing.Get a larger engine.and at least 3.73 rear before the T56.

When an engine shows up here in europe i will, us things are rare here or insanly overpriced.
The end phase would be an lt1 engine or a 5.3 lm7 engine

Hawks is a good resource for parts like this. You may be able to find a bell that will work by QuickTime but that's probably more headache than necessary. You can also check eBay.
