Need help identifying this posi
So I just recently bought a used 10 bolt from a 94 z28 camaro to go in my 87 trans am. One of the first things I noticed after taking off the cover was that the small springs between the spider gears in the posi unit are orange and yellow, and everywhere I've seen the stock auburn posi units did not have colored springs in them. Did I get lucky and find an aftermarket posi unit? I'll try to attach a couple pictures to help. I think it's worthwhile to mention that the magnet inside of the diff cover had a little bit of material stuck to it, but I wiped it off before I thought to take a picture. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Well it was dirt cheap and complete and a big improvement over what I have now so I'm going to work with it. Can you tell if it's been replaced or not?

Re: Need help identifying this posi
Doesn't matter
It's not an improvement unless yours is a Gov-Bomb and it's already done what those do
It's an Auburn
Total trash
Throw it away, it's worth less than the gasket and fluid you'd need just to do the most ghetto possible swapout
Just because it was "cheeeeeeeep" doesn't automatically mean that it's A Good Idea to put it in your car

Well in case I wasn't clear enough I'm in college building this car off of 12 bucks an hour so unfortunately "cheeeeeep" is all I'm able to afford. At this point I hardly have the ability to even buy a new gasket for the cover especially because I'll need new brakes and shocks to be able to put it in the car, so yes I know there's a million better ways to do it but this is what works for me now so I'm going to work with it until I'm able to afford better stuff.

are you swapping over the whole rear axle or just taking the posi carrier to swap into your axle? If swapping carriers, you will need 28 spline axles from a '90-92.

I agree, it looks like an auburn. I have the race one in my 9in. They're not the greatest out there but it should get the job done. Mine lights up both sticky 305s pretty well, no issues w one leggers. . I've launched pretty hard on mine and had no issues but it's also in a 9in. You'll be cool, don't sweat it Don't forget friction modifier when you fill it.
