Tv cable has too much slack

Tv cable has too much slack
Hey guys, helping my brother out with a tv cable issue. The car is a 92rs and was originally a 305tbi that had a carbd 355 put into it with a 700r4
The shop that put the engine in his car did a horrendous job, the issue im currently facing is that they zip tied the tv cable around itself to get rid of slack so they could set it. This is obviously a hack job so I had my brother order a new tbi tv cable. I made sure the trans end hooked the plunger hook and was connected when I bolted that down. Now when we go to set the tv cable there is way too much slop in the cable, with the slider pressed all the way torwards the firewall and the carbs throttle wide open it doesn't click at all. We have a tci geometry corrector bracket (https://m.summitracing.com/parts/tci-376715) on the 1806 edelbrock carb and what appears to be a tv cable bracket made for a Holley (he ordered the first one he saw off eBay)
I've done a trans swap in my firebird and have set the detent cable on that many times without issue. I'm wondering if we have the wrong tv cable mount, geometry corrector bracket, or if the 1806 carb isn't compatible with overdrive. Any ideas? My finger on the cable shows how much slop there is. With the throttle wide open it won't even click once

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
Looks to me like the adapter lever is not installed properly. Specifically, looks kinda like the stud and the little Allen/Torx screw, are exchanged. Or maybe it's upside down and just needs to be flipped over. Or maybe even, it's just the wrong part period, like maybe he should get the one for an Edelbrock carb instead of a Holley.

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
It looks to me that your Holley throttle cable bracket is the problem. Notice the difference in location of where the TV cable is held in relation to the throttle cable. Your Holley bracket positions the cable further forward, causing that slack. You could cut it off and re-weld it back further, but I see you already ordered the correct bracket.

I see what you mean and am hoping that's the issue. I had him order the correct edelbrock one but I still have my doubts. when I take the tv cable off the stud and pull it I still have a good amount of cable to pull out before the tv cable ratchets. A lot more than I believe the bracket change will make up for

It looks like there is about a 1" difference.

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
So the new edelbrock bracket is in holding the tv cable. My dad and brother put it in and said for some reason they couldn't mount the throttle cable on it but that's irrelevant. As you can see in the picture there is pretty much no slack whatsoever but the detent cable still won't ratchet out.
I took the cable off the car and compared it to the stock tbi cable and it is absolutely identical. I verified it was hooked up in the trans as well. I can only get it to ratchet out when I disconnect it from the carb and pull on it by hand.
I'm sure this is incorrect but I'm grasping at straws now, does the trans fluid level need to be correct for it to ratchet? It's down a couple quarts at the moment.

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
Wow, this is weird. In your first photo with the Holley bracket, the TV cable is mounted about 1" forward of the throttle cable mtg position. The photo I posted shows both cables in line with each other. And now, your new Edelbrock bracket positions the TV cable about 1.5" to the rear of the throttle cable mtg location.
If you asked me, I think yours needs to be both in line with each other for it to work properly. But I can't tell you exactly why neither is correct.
It looks like those brackets took you from one extreme to the other.

Notice that where both cables attach are in line with each other.

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
Hey Tyler, did you ever get this worked out?
Right now I am on a mission to figure out the correct aftermarket bracket (IF one even exists) to make this conversion work.

Re: Tv cable has too much slack
I found it! I found it! I found it!
A throttle & TV cable bracket for Edelbrock carbs for a ?reasonable? price.
And Holley makes it - go figure.
This would be used foir an f-body that originally came with the E4ME electronic QJet carb and 700R4 auto transmission and STOCK cables.
Available at Classic Industries $41.99
You will still need to use a TV geometry correction bracket.
