26 spline diff change to 28 spline/trutrac
I have an 82 Z/28 it has the 26 spline axle and carrier .
I am buying an Eaton True trac possi and a set of axles from Moser.
Can i go for 28 spline centre and axles
or do i have to for some reason have to use 26 spline and centre.
Will my diff housing support the 28 spline setup or were they different for some reason.

Re: 26 spline diff change to 28 spline/trutrac
You are getting exactly what you need. You need the 28 spline differential and 28 spline axles. That's it. The axle bearings and seals are the same for 26 and 28 spline axles, and the differential bearings are the same for both. It will all fit in your '82 housing.
Without trying to be a jerk I'd like to point out that the Truetrac is not a Posi. The Eaton Posi has clutches and the Eaton Truetrac uses gears to apply power to both wheels. People use the name Posi for all kinds of limited slip differentials, but the only one that can actually be correctly called a Posi is the Eaton clutch type differential.
I'm a little confused by your signature. It says that you have a 9 inch Ford with 3.4 gears. What do you actually have in this car?

Re: 26 spline diff change to 28 spline/trutrac
i bought a 9 inch from Quick performance and it wont be here until December,, shipping ,, customs clearance,,etc, etc,
i just cant wait to get it up the strip and i did last wednesday and ran a 13.8 with a 2.78 LSD.
I can get the Eaton True track and 3.4 gears here from summit within 10 days and get it up the strip again in 2 weeks..
i will see how the eaton goes and it may be ok if i dont light the tires up like last week.
The 9 inch will cost me over 4K landed and ready to go in but i still need handbrake cables,,brake lines, driveshaft mods etc, etc.
And being in Australia i cant send anything back once its here...
Yes i agree the possi true track thing and even i am confused because some of the sites selling this stuff show you one thing but will ship something different from the photo,s
have a look at the Eaton true track summit list for 26 axles and look at what they show for 28 spline axles,, the helical gears are inside the 26 spline but it shown nothing inside the 28 spline photo,
Thats why i am doing all my homework now so i can get it up and running fast and then get ready for the 9 inch to arrive..
The 9 inch is at quick performance and really good service, they are in Iowa and my shipping guy is in Compton Cal "ocean international" freight loading terminal where my mate loads his containersto come down to Australia.
I am so impressed with my first ever 1/4 mile time and it was exciting i am looking allready at a dart SHP 427 short motor and good ol big port Bow tie Vortecs from Pace performance.
I can sell my engine here for $4500 or more and use my carb intake and distributor on the new engine,,,,,THEN i will need the 9 inch in the car definately.
I think this true trac and moser axles will be good until i can get the ford 9 inch ready.
besides the cheap 7.5 inch true track and axles is only a couple hundred bucks and should be better than what i am using now.
the engine now flys but i am ready for the next level as the stock 400+060 bottom end and old block and stock rods is pretty basic .
thanks for the reply i need all the help i can get as not many of these cars here and none modified that i know of except old pro stockers from 15 years ago
Exciting times for sure

Have you asked QP about the 10 bolt parts? They sell complete kits with the differential, gears, installation kit and they sell axles too. You might get a better deal from them.

Quick Performance sells packages for 7.5inch 10 bolts but there the Yukon clutch type centers with the springs etc.
i hear a lot about the Eaton Gear type that they refer to as the Detroit Tru Trac
