T5 locked up? Help!

Ok so the other day I had trouble getting into 3rd started off shifting hard then wouldn't go in at all and me being me jammed it into 3rd hard and lost 3rd and 4th at the same time so I was thinking shift fork but when I tried to back the car in to pull the trans the shifter stuck in rev. And now the car won't roll and stalls when I let the clutch out. Is it possible that I'm in both 3rd and rev?

Re: T5 locked up? Help!

Yes it sure is.

Time to tear it down and (a) shift it out of at least one gear, and (b) find & repair whatever allowed that to happen in the first place.

Ok well it looks like I'm pulling it apart this weekend. I believe it's the 3rd to 4th shift fork but I'll know for shore by next week. I've called most of the local parts stores and can't fined much for internal parts any ideas?

You won't. Don't any of em have anything.

But...

I'm gonna give you the longest, least intuitive url EVAH for you to visit, that you would NEVER suspect of having any connection to 5-speeds:

www.5speeds.com

Sorry it doesn't make any sense, but believe it or not, they have parts.

There's others too; no doubt Google might find at least some of them.

But, don't buy anything just yet. It's not impossible that you'll find so much tore up, that it will be cheeeeper and less risk to just get another one. Wait until you see what's destroyed before buying. Above all, make sure the case is in good shape; if not, NO AMOUNT of "rebuilding" will EVER make it work right again.

Inspect the hole around this bearing carefully. Note in the pic, how there's a dark stain below it; that's fluid that leaked out from around the bearing, because the case is stretched, making the hole oval. You can see how the bearing, which is supposed to be a press-fit in the case, has even been spinning, which is what made that witness mark about 3/8" wide all the way around it where it's been rubbing on the back of the clutch gear bearing retainer. If your trans has this condition, it's a lost cause, fully used-up. Spend NO money on such a transmission. Replace it outright with one WITHOUT The Problem.

The one in the pic is a 1st design. 2nd design (88-up I think it is, in these cars, but might be 87) is different; a bit harder to spot this condition in those, because it has an O-ring around the bearing and therefore doesn't leak even when the case is destroyed. But, the stretching still allows the gears to mis-align, leading to very short service life even with brand-new gears.
