700r4 speedometer gear ??

Hello everyone,

I have had my transmission rebuilt recently and its working perfectly, my concer is that my speedometer gear output gear is not spinning at all. I feel like the shaft gear is to far back on the shaft and is not aligning with the output gear. i know this because when i spin the drive shaft i get no movement with the key i stuck in there (key for electronic speedo sender)

is there something im missing? ive added photos for help

The drive gear, red in your pics, is retained with a clip. There are 2 holes in the output shaft. It looks like the clip is in the forward hole, when you need the rearward hole. The driveshaft must come out, the torque arm must be unfastened from its bushing, the torque arm bushing bracket and transmission tailhousing must be removed, then you can correct this.

actually, from what i am seeing in the pic, the clip is loose inside the tail housing meaning there is nothing holding the gear in place.

Possibly. Either way the fix is the same. I have 3 or 4 cracked plastic drive gears because they're a press-fit. Difficult to get them off without damage. Before installing the new one, boil it, wipe it dry, then wipe the inside with ATF. Then use a spare driveshaft yoke to help with pressing it on squarely. Once you bottom the yoke, a couple of bits of 2x4, cut from the same length to ensure same thickness, will help. Still use the yoke to press the 2x4s as they press the gear.
