once again the t5 swap boogie questions
Right so I have an 87 with a 2 piece rear 350 already swapped in place of the lg4 305. With a 2.73 open diff. I have no idea what the computer does anymore. I took apart my dash and found that my speedo has a circuit board above it. What is that for and what does it mean?
My donor car is an 85 with a t5 and a posi with 3.27. the speedo is normal as in there is no circuit board above it. When I do this swap how do I get my speedo to work and Should I have any problems with the vss since my engine isn't controlled by the computer? I have read a lot of post about the vss but I am confused as if it will effect my engine. Any help and advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: once again the t5 swap boogie questions
Hey I may can help I help swap a tpi in a s10 and to get the factory speedo to work we kept the little box ur talking about hooked up. It called a drac module that's where ur speedo gets it signal from. So if ur tranny is going to have the same speed single as what came out ur speedo should work with out ur ECM.. If I'm correct that is lol

Re: once again the t5 swap boogie questions
The 85 has a mechanical speedo, 86 and up is electronic, that's what that circuit board does. You car is carbed, sob the vss signal will not be needed to run the car as it would in a tbi/tpi car.
You will need to get the proper t5 electric sender for the speed sensor in order to get your speedo to work. You will also need the right drive/driven gears for it, and they are almost impossible to find, so good luck with those. If the doner car sstill has the axle, you could justv swap that too and be set, just use the speedo gear from the mechanical sender on the electric one. The axle should have better gears in it too over you peg leg 2:73 you have now
Thed DRAC is the yellow box that's a little larger than a dexk of cards that was attached to the computer. You need that to buffer the raw signal from the speed sensor so the speedo can read it and function properly. You don't need the computer for anything other than the origional computer controlled carb and ignition, if that's all gone, the computer does nothing
