All third gens used a VSS that fits right in place of the speedometer driven gear & gear sleeve in the tailhousing. You need a VSS for a 1992 Camaro with T5, which will bolt right into your 83 T5. If your speedo was correct before, copy the ratio of the speedo gears in the 700-R4 and duplicate them with the T5. (such as... if your 700-R4 has 15 and 43 teeth, you could go with a 7 and 20 combination in the T5.)

You need to figure out how many teeth for the driven gear since you probably already have the right drive gear first (if you don't, you could be in trouble since not too many places have any anymore and a lot of people are begging for them... I already sold my spare). You're probably going to want to go to junkyards for this since most sites I've seen say they're sold out of them. I got lucky and found mine on a speedo cable adapter in my 85 T-5. But, then, I also have a 3.42 rear...
Second, the VSS is readily available from just about anywhere, but you need to make sure it's a 90-92 VSS and not an earlier one.

Have you looked here.

P.S. by the way i have a couple of universal vss for sale. They can accomodate electric signal and have cable provision. These unversal vss screw into the cable port on the tranny.
P.P.S i couldn't find this earlier but i think it has what you need.

Well, since half of the calibrations in the MEMCAL depend on the vehicle speed, yes, it kind of has something to do with the way the engine runs. You've posted in other threads you're having problems with the speedo head. There are only 3 parts in the speedo system, not counting the wiring between... The VSS, the ECM (on 90-92 cars), and the speedo/odometer itself.
