91 rs LT1 4L60E swap.....
i have the motor and trans in but, the shift linkage is backwards, how (specifically) do i adapt my stock shifter to be able to shift this transmission?
i need to convert it from push to pull, or pull to push, however you want to look at it....
i did take the stock arm from the 700R4, but it's really of no help, it's still going the wrong direction, and if i go UP instead of letting it hang down, i would need to build a new bracket instead of being able to let the bracket hang from the transmission oil pan..
the car i got the motor out of was a cadillac fleetwood with a column shifter if that helps...... but again, i took the arm off of the 700R4 instead of using the U shaped bracket that came on the motor..
advice?
if i HAAAAAAAVE to, i will buy a 4th gen camaro shifter and cable etc and see if that works, but i'm really on a super tight budget and still have a ton of stuff to spend money on that is a necessity. i'd rather fab than buy and only buy what is 100% necessary to make the car work.......... like... a fuel pump, etc.....
i'd consider that a necessary expense..
thx...
i know that people do these swaps EVERY DAY, and apparently it's not a huge deal because.. i don't see a thousand threads on here asking that question. (and given that, i didn't easily find my answer so posted)

Based on my many third-gens and my old '95 Z28, you should use the '83-'92 shifter, cable, bracket AND arm, toss ALL the 4L60E external parts.

Re: 91 rs LT1 4L60E swap.....
but not completely accurate.
basically, i found that the 700R4 shift arm wouldn't work, that's why i posted this.. the one that was on the trans was set up for a column shift so wouldn't work either..
but.. i DID figure out that i can use the shift arm if i put a cable bracket from a 4th gen camaro on the transmission instead of using the one that came with the car or the 700 R4 one..
as for the piece of metal that goes from the rear end to the transmission and is bolted onto a bracket (no not the drive shaft... the ... other thing i cant remember the name of. not a sway bar but... similar) the rear part of the transmission can be changed out so it will mount up etc... that's on the agenda for tomorrow..
long story short though, i think i have it figured out.

It is taken for granted that you have to swap your original 3rd Gen parts onto to any non 3rd Gen items for them to work in your car
