Th350, long vs short, what is mine?

Ok heres the situation I've got 3 cars with th350s. I always thought they were the same but apparently they're a long and a short. I'm in need of a transmission for my 80 T/A. I'm pretty confident I have a short one in it and the other two I honestly can't tell if they are any longer or not just by looking at them. I'm afraid to climb under the other two and measure since I just about got snake bitten today. Baby copperhead so I'm assuming moms close by. What length is considered short though. They all look around 6 inches. Does anyone know what a 82 originally had?

6 inches should be a short tail. I just gave away a long tail and it was definately 9-12 inches long. Sorry I do not have any actual measurements though.

Re: Th350, long vs short, what is mine?

Third gens never came with TH350 transmissions. The 82 had a 200c 3 speed. The majority of cars with TH350's are the short 6" tailshaft. Pickup trucks and vans generally have the longer 9" tailshaft. This isn't always the case and you'll have to measure to make sure. All you're measuring is the tailshaft housing.

Swapping out a 700R4 for a TH350 requires a long tail shaft to retain the original driveshaft. If you use a short tailshaft TH350, you need the driveshaft from the 82-83 that came with the 200c transmission.
